3 Crochet Ideas for Your Home DecorBy Tameko Barnette – 4 Comments
Decorating the home can be a fun experience, but we’ve had moments where decorating the home can be a daunting task. Coming up with new ideas, especially if you’re an experimentalist like me, can help make the experience a lot better. This time around I put together my favorite three crochet ideas for your home decor.
Here we go…
1. Pictures. Hanging up those darn picture frames can be lots of fun with all the nailing and hammering going on. However, I have found that jazzing up how I hang up the picture can be loads of fun. You can create a long crocheted piece to hang your pictures on the wall. Chain a piece that’s long enough for your picture to reach the height and balance you require for your wall, then single crochet stitch the length of the chain. Doing this will help the hanger hold the picture securely on the nail and make sure there’s enough thickness to help with balance of the picture. You can attach your single crochet chain to the back of your picture in a way that works for your picture frame. You can even color coordinate the crochet hanger to match the colors in the picture or the room in which the picture will be placed.
2. Plants. There are a lot of plant lovers in the world. Many people love to have live plants hanging either outside on the house or inside the house or both. You can try a crochet pattern for a plant hanger to use for your favorite plants and flowers to hang up from the ceiling in your kitchen or living room. You can even hang them up on the front and back porch ceilings. So, give this a try when you start to contemplate putting your live plants up inside or outside.
3. Rugs. Whether you live in a big old house or a cute little apartment, nothing says home like a lovely rug in your living room or your din area. There are a lot of crochet rug patterns available for you to try. We are always crocheting afghans, blankets, and such for topical use. Just recently I discovered crochet rug patterns.
One of the things I have found really adds to the experience of home living and the experience of crochet is creating items specifically for the home. It gives your home a truly ‘homemade’ feel that you just can’t buy out of any store. Imagine the joy you’d feel when a friend or a relative asks, “Where did you buy this?” and you can brightly answer, “I made it myself.”
It’s like good home cookin’. It’s warm. It’s inviting. It’s made with lots of love.
