An Angry Crochet Spot Reader

A person sent me a nasty email the other day telling me how angry she was after making my super fluffy bath puff. I’m guessing that she didn’t read my ramble about the cotton yarn experiment that I wrote to go along with the bath puff or else she would have known the flaws that I pointed out.

Anyway, I decided to share this with everyone so that you all know that yes, there are flaws in the bath puff and if you still want to make it it is up to you. So please, please, PLEASE read the cotton yarn experiment before deciding to make the bath puff and sending me an email accusing me of making you buy cotton yarn and a new hook, just to make a piece of “crap”.

From reading other blogs, I’m guessing that’s not gonna be the last crazy nasty email you get. (At least she didn’t try to bill you for the yarn and hook LOL)

I haven’t crocheted in years and still haven’t started again yet – but I love your blog and have a couple things bookmarked I wanna make soon LOL.

  4. Pam says:

What a silly thing to get angry about. The person that sent that email obviously has other issues. Don’t let them get to you.

  5. Pam says:

and P.S., you didn’t “make” them buy cotton yarn and a hook… geez!!

  6. Dominique says:

I have to agree. This was a silly thing to be angry about. I can understand being slightly annoyed but then I would be more embarrassed as I didn’t read everything about it, as I should have. Keep your head up and that smile on your face Rachel.

  7. Colleen says:

So sorry, Rachel–that kind of reaction from that person was totally inappropriate. You’re very kind to share all of your free patterns with us, and I just wanted you to know that regardless of this one person’s unhappiness, you can rest assured that 99% of your readers truly appreciate what you provide on Crochet Spot. And I have to agree with everyone else who’s replied above–this is a very silly and inconsequential thing for somebody to complain about. So, thank you! (And just ignore that unhappy person.) :)

Rachel, I have made you bath puff. I think that its great. I did find a cotton yarn that said it was 4 ply, but it seems lighter, and used that to make the puff. I use it for my daughter who is 2. She loves using it in the tub, it is easy for her to use on her own and as an added bonus, its like a sponge so she enjoys playing with it. I am thinking of trying the pattern with Phentex yarn…the kind that you can make slippers with. I have made scrubbies from this material and they have turned out great. I will let you know how it works.

    Hi Rachael!

I have been on your website here so much this past week. I love it!!! And every week I love the crochet spot update. I am really enjoying the patterns that you put on here. I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say Hi, and let you know how much I appreciate your sharing your love for crochet!!!

I find it disturbing and sad that someone got so annoyed over a bathpuff that didn’t live up to there expectations.

  11. DCMerkle says:

    Rachael,
That was ridicules, but when you have a community like this, you are opening up yourself to anyone that will take issue with anything that is perceived as a wrong done. The best thing to do is either ignore them or write them a personal email, being very diplomatic about the issue, show them where they may have made the mistake and then just let it go. Don’t expect an apology, because people like that don’t know how to offer the apology because they will not want to see that it was their mistake.

I love your website, Your instructions are easy to read and that you will even make them easier to read shows me that you are willing to go that extra mile. Ex., the rose pattern. Keep them coming. Go girl!

  12. Renee says:

Oh man what a small thing to get mad over, Dont worry, you have GOBS of readers that simply LOVE your blog :)

    Me being one :)

  13. Gaz says:

LMAO I love people who get pissy over the littlest things. I’ve worked in retail for almost 10 years, so I’ve seen my share of it. I love how she says you “made her buy cotton yarn and a new hook” like you had her under some crochet control spell. I hope you either gave a well-worded comeback that put her in her place or just ignored her. Also, maybe she’s just a crappy crocheter so it’s not the flaws in the pattern and material but her but she can’t admit it so she’s taking it out on you. Just keep that in mind

  14. maryanne says:

Wow, I can’t believe you got an angry letter over a free pattern you posted on your blog! I think your site is great, sorry you got a nasty email.

  15. Awww….that sucks! People can be so ugly, and that was just uncalled for. I’m sorry you had to deal with such a rude person hun.

    (((hugs)))
    Anita

  16. Nicole says:

How rude!! I always feel like ANY new project that I’m trying for the first time is an experiment! That’s the whole fun part about learning something new. I never think something will come out exactly right the very first time….that’s the fun in crochet. You can adjust or change things to your own liking!

I’m very sorry to hear you had such an ugly email….hopefully that will never happen again :)

I SO look forward to your Weekly Updates! Thanks for all your hard work!

    Nicole

  17. Rachel says:

You know you’ve made it big when you’re getting angry comments! =) So sorry you had to deal with negativity. I hope you have an AWESOME day today! You’re my crochet inspiration!

  18. Deborah says:

I haven’t made the bath puff, but my friend did and she really likes it. Even if the angry person didn’t like her puff, she should have kept it to herself after all the work you do to help people learn to crochet.

  19. gloria says:

Rachel I am sorry to hear that somone was that immature that they sent you a nasty email.
Well the fact of the matter is there are a lot of self-absorbed people in this world who this it is all about them.
I love your site and I know your a generous; giving person with a very large heart.

  20. gloria says:

thanks for all you do and for sharing your patterns.

  21. Heather says:

Rachel, don’t let it get you down. You’re doing a great job & you ARE appreciated. First, I am new to crochet but I learned 3 things very quickly: 1. Yarn can be unraveled & can be re-used. 2. There are many great uses for cotton yarn, just one of which is a potholder. 3. Read the entire pattern before you even begin. Please keep up the great service that you are doing for the rest of us Rachel! Thanks for everything that you do.

  22. Mich says:

    Wow
Thats just rude of that person
I can’t believe that someone would do that. Ok, well yes I can, but its still really rude. People just seem to forget/ignore the fact that there are people that they are talking to when they are on the internet *shakes head*.

I quote Renee- “Dont worry, you have GOBS of readers that simply LOVE your blog

    Me being one”
    :D

  23. jenny says:

Thank you for sharing your patterns and sorry about the nasty e-mail you got.

  24. HappyPie says:

Don’t let one nasty comment get you down! There are lots of us who DO read the information and certainly appreciate your free patterns. Thanks for all the work you put into your blog and newsletter. Keep on crocheting!

  25. Geri says:

I made that puff using regular 4 ply yarn and it got great. I love it. I also made one for my Granddaughter to put in a gift bag for her fifteenth birthday coming up.
I didn’t really have any problems with it and I enjoyed making it.

  26. Mindy says:

Don’t let the crazies drag you down. I love your patterns. I have had my share of trouble making certain patterns I’ve found over the years on the internet, but never have I blamed the person who wrote it. And especially not for ‘making’ me buy a hook or yarn. LoL. I do enough of that on my own. :P

  27. Shyla says:

    Rachel…. YOU GO GIRL!!!! LOL!
As for the person with the attitude……Lifes to short to take time out of your day to piss and moan over such a petty issue…..GET A GRIP! Rachel shares her talents with us and we all just need to stop and say…..THANK YOU!!

  28. val says:

ha! Did you offer to give her her money back? Oh, wait! Your patterns are FREE! silly me…..

Tell her to design her OWN pattern. And then tell her that you need to make the item at LEAST 3 times to ensure the pattern is perfect. And then tell her that she needs to have someone ELSE make it too, just to ensure ease of understanding the pattern. THEN tell her to post it on her OWN blog and offer it up for FREE and see how she feels when someone rails at her.

    Shesh…….

  29. Hezaaa says:

Boooo. I made it just as a fun peice! Some people are silly.

  30. Serah says:

Rachel, Rachel… you dear woman, how DO you deal with all the frivolous and meaningless CRAP from some of these people who don’t have anything better to do than piss and moan at people who give them FREE things? Sheesh! They need to get a GRIP alright and get a LIFE while they’re at it! LMHO Thank you SOOOOOO much for all the information you post on this site for us and all the free patterns you offer up. Surely you understand that this person is in the 1 percentile of all those who read your awesome blog! You’re a true blessing from Heaven… keep up the good work, Rachel and God bless you for all the help you offer so many people! Muuuuuahhh!!!

  31. Serah says:

PS… Forgot to comment on your darling picture… I can tell you’re a real peach just by that loving smile!

  32. Margaret says:

I just discovered this site several days ago. For various reasons life has been rather challenging lately. Reading your site and printing some patterns to use has really cheered me up, and helped me feel a lot better. So you see, you are really doing a loving thing with this web site, and that matters more in the long run than whether or not you can please every idiot who has to find something to complain about. Some people can always find fault no matter what you do, and the only thing to do is to learn how to ignore their stupidity & immaturity, because you will never please them no matter how hard you try, so it is a waste of your energy to pay attention to them.
That doesn’t take away from the fact that it really does hurt to be on the receiving end of such abuse. So, I am just sending you a great big huge hug to ease the hurt. I hope you can feel the hug!!! :-)
Learning to ignore hurtful & abusive remarks has taken me many, many years of practice, so get as many comforting hugs as you can. It helps.
Here’s another one. Or a dozen, or however many you need!
You are loved by many people – it shows in the comments they make on your site.
Thank you for being you. You have certainly lightened my day, and I love you too.

just stumbled upon this and wanted to say I agree with the above posters, most of whom I read

    /big hugs from me, too
