Crochet Pattern: Mini Santa Hat

Sometimes all it takes is a little decorative touch to get things ready for the Christmas season. These little hats can be used all over to add a bit of festivity. You can use them as ornaments, gift tags, wreath accents, accessories for small dolls or figurines, or anything else you might need to make your holiday special. Try making two for a pair of earrings or turn a regular finger puppet into a Santa puppet. crochet_mini_santa_hat

As the year draws to a close, some people are already experiencing winter’s chill and seeing snow ranging from flurries to full-on ground-covering falls. Whether you associate snow with warm pajamas and hot chocolate or with shoveling and traffic delays, there’s one thing you’ll be hard-pressed to deny: the beauty of the snowflake. crochet_spoked_snowflake

Crochet Pattern: Autumn Harvest Scarf

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 19th, 2015 by Amy Yarbrough – 12 Comments
I can’t tell you how fond I am of autumn colors. They are so earthy and appealing! When autumn rolls around each year I am sure to find some way of exploiting this love of color. And here’s this years version, a simple, one-skein scarf that takes very little time to crochet. The stitch pattern is easy to work and at the same time lovely, giving the lightweight scarf a little character. I chose Red Heart’s Boutique Unforgettable in Polo and a fairly large size hook and ended up with a scarf perfect for these cool fall days! Autumn Harvest Scarf

Accessorize your Barbie for the upcoming winter season with a cozy scarf. It’s a great way to use up those few extra yards of sock yarn left over from another project. To complete this pattern, you will need to be familiar with Tunisian crochet, including the Tunisian knit stitch. Please see the linked tutorials for help. crochet_tunisian_block_barbie_scarf

Crochet Pattern: Cable Bow

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 5th, 2015 by Candace – 9 Comments
A cable in the middle puts a twist (See what I did there?) on a classic accessory. While the bow is simple in concept, it’s a little tricky to complete, so it’s good to be comfortable with crochet cables and post stitches. Stitch markers may also come in handy for getting past the cable. crochet_cable_bow

Crochet Pattern: FourSquare Baby Blanket

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 29th, 2015 by Amy Yarbrough – 6 Comments
I think I have already mentioned how fond I am of returning to the simple crochet basics of granny squares. This new baby blanket pattern is really just a twist on the old but I couldn’t help making it anyway. First you crochet four large granny squares and then put them together for one large, and fun, blanket. And always remember, there is nothing like a handmade baby blanket. Parents will treasure it for a while but a child will treasure it forever. FourSquare Baby Blanket

Crochet Pattern: Oxford Binder Pouch

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 23rd, 2015 by Amy Yarbrough – 6 Comments
For lack of a better option, growing up I would put my pencils and other accessories in the front slip of my binder. Naturally the plastic slip would stretch and eventually become too lose to hold papers. Now that I am older I can very well see the flaws in that method of carrying supplies, but what else can you do with them? There are many kinds of lovely pencil bags and pouches to choose from at the store, even some with the option of latching into your binder. I liked this idea especially and designed my own. Here is the pattern for you to make also! The stitch is called Shallow Single Crochet and is easy to do while lending an academic look to the piece. Oxford Binder Pouch

Crochet Pattern: Tripoint Bookmark

Do you know that feeling when you finish reading a book in a series, and the only thing you want to do is crack open the next one? What about the feeling when there is no next one yet? Well, my wait for the next one has recently ended, and I’ve finally gotten around to actually going to the bookstore. What better way to celebrate a new book (other than reading it!) than with a new bookmark? crochet_tripoint_bookmark
