This sparkly embellishment can be made in a wide variety of ways just by changing the yarn color and beads. It can be used as an applique or as as an element in a piece of jewelry. It’s a great way to use up scrap yarn– make a bunch and use them to make necklaces or garlands or cover a bag or blanket with them. crochet_sparkly_crescent

Crochet Pattern: Classic Square Coaster

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on January 31st, 2015 by Rachel Choi – 1 Comment
Here is a coaster pattern that is great for beginners! Instead of a basic square crocheted in rows, this coaster gives you practice crocheting in the round. When crocheted in the round, it allows you to make concentric squares that are noticeable when changing yarn colors! If you need help changing colors, feel free to check out the How to Change Colors in Crochet tutorial. You can vary when you change colors to give each coaster a different look. Crochet a bunch of these coasters to create an entire set. crochet classic square coasters

Crochet Pattern: Turban Headband

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on January 22nd, 2015 by Amy Yarbrough – 6 Comments
The turban style headband brings back memories of the old days when women adopted the style as a part of fashion. Though wearing the turban for fashion has existed for centuries, in the 20’s it was reintroduced by a fashion designer with an Eastern flair. Many of us will recall pictures of a later era with women wearing them while working in factories during World War II. This headband is simple and easy to make, perfect for that Lana Turner-inspired outfit. As an added benefit, it will keep a bit of winter chill from your ears. Turban Headband

Crochet Pattern: Classic Homespun Scarf

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 30th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 6 Comments
You can’t make just one! That’s what I say every time I make one. I started making these scarves years ago and now it has become a tradition with me to make sure each of my family members has one. I really enjoy taking the time to choose a Homespun yarn that perfectly suits the person I am making it for. And with the great variety of colors Homespun has to offer, this can become pleasantly difficult. Give it a try! Classic Homespun Scarf

Crochet Pattern: Bit o’ Twist Headband

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 25th, 2014 by Candace – 4 Comments
My hair almost never feels tamed without a headband. It’s almost like my keys as far as being a necessity for leaving the house. A lot of crochet headbands are really wide–at least for my taste– and I wanted one that was less obtrusive with skinny ties to keep it on. And of course, I had to put a cable on it. crochet_bitotwist_headband

Crochet Pattern: Frosted Drawstring Pouch

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 18th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 5 Comments
There are many reasons to have a small pouch on hand during this season. Fill it with a gift to give, decorate with it, or use it to put a few of your favorite Christmas CD’s to bring with you on trips, to name just a few. There is always something you can use a pouch for. The stitch used is called the Spike Cluster and works into many of the previous rows to give it the perfect flourish. Though it may look daunting it is truly an easy and fun stitch. So give it a try. You can’t have too many bags! Frosted Pouch

Crochet Pattern: Rustic Star Ornament

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 13th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 7 Comments
There are many themes at Christmas, mostly with color. Berry red and Christmas tree green, often times mixed with white are a more average theme. Then there are candy-colored themes, neon palettes, and some royal colors like deep purple and chocolate brown. But my particular favorite is the old-fashioned theme of dark reds and greens, with some browns thereabouts. Gives you a feeling of cherished Christmases from the past. That’s the same feeling I wanted to capture while designing this pattern. Old and cherished. This star ornament was made with simple stitches and a rustic cotton yarn. Very easy and fun! Merry Christmas everyone! Rustic Star Ornament
