When you think of buying a crochet book, most people are looking for a variety of patterns. Design Your Own Crochet Projects by Sara Delaney has a different approach. While still providing a variety of crochet patterns, it gives you the details on how each pattern is designed and sized. I wish there was a book like this years ago when I started designing my own crochet patterns. It gives you the insight into how the author develops her patterns so that you can extrapolate what you want to make your own.

What Is Your Most Used Crochet Hook?

Posted in Fun Ramblings on September 20th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – 17 Comments

Many crocheters have lots of crochet hooks, but if you’re like me there is one hook that you tend to use the most. It will most likely depend on the type of crochet projects you enjoy making and the thickness of yarn or thread you tend to use.

For me, I use a lot of medium/worsted weight yarn to crochet hats, scarves, home decor items, blankets, and bags. Although that is a wide range of projects, I still tend to have a most used hook and secondary hooks that are a size up or down depending on the tension I want to achieve. My most used crochet hook is a Susan Bates size I (5.50 mm). It’s nothing fancy, just a plain aluminum crochet hook that I bought in a starter set a long time ago.

What is your most used crochet hook? What type of projects do you tend to crochet? Join the conversation in the comments below and see what others are saying!

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns, Fun Ramblings on July 19th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – Be the first to comment

Have you ever heard of the phrase “Christmas in July”? I’m not quite sure of the origin, perhaps it’s a longing for the chill of winter in the heat of summer, or a marketing technique to increases Christmas related sales in July. Either way, in the crochet world it means you better start your crochet projects now, in July, for them to be done by Christmas! In this post I rounded up a few Christmas related patterns and also gift ideas, that aren’t always quick to crochet (especially if you’re planning on making multiples). You’ll need to get started on them right now if you want to ensure they’re completed in time for Christmas!

1. Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt – The pattern is deceivingly long to crochet. The ruffles use more stitches than you think! Get started on this tree skirt early so you’ll have it to decorate your tree for Christmas.

Crochet in Ireland at the Blarney Castle

Posted in Fun Ramblings on July 17th, 2017 by Rachel Choi – 8 Comments

You may have noticed the blog was quiet the past week. That’s because I was in Ireland taking in the sights and scenery. The family trip was fantastic as the locals were all so friendly and we got to see lots of tourist attractions, small cities, and even the beautiful national parks and scenery. One place that really stood out on my week’s adventure was my visit to the Blarney Castle. Not necessarily because of the historical significance, but because of the crochet and knit art that was there!

I’ve witnessed lots of crochet art via the web, but honestly never in person until the day I visited the Blarney Castle. The trees lining the walkway to the castle were all covered in crochet and knit.
