Crochet Pattern Copyrights

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns, Free Crochet Patterns, Fun Ramblings, News, Tutorials and Help on May 10th, 2010 by Rachel – 17 Comments

This post contains very important information, so please read, especially if you are using, intend to use, or have used any Crochet Spot pattern. I appreciate you taking the time out to read the following copyright information.

It has come to my attention that copyrights are being infringed, both intentionally and non intentionally on Crochet Spot and on other crochet websites of other pattern designers. I know that most of my readers/customers are honest, respectable individuals, so please let this post serve as a friendly reminder to what the Copyrights are all about.

Here are the basic guidelines for using crochet patterns in this site:

No pattern or other material may be reproduced — mechanically, electronically, or by any other means, including photocopying — without written permission of Rachel Choi. This applies for all content on Crochet Spot, all free patterns, all patterns for sale in the store, and even content such as tutorials.

For example:

You can NOT email a friend a copy of the pattern you downloaded.
Instead, you can send them the link to the pattern, so they can get their own copy.

You can NOT photocopy a pattern and redistribute it in any form.
Instead, you can tell others where they can go to get their own copy.

You can NOT copy a pattern (or part of a pattern) and publish it on another website or other publication.
Instead, you can publish a link to the pattern.

You may sell your finished crocheted items, but not the pattern. However, you are not allowed to sell items that are made commercially. The item must be handmade with your own hands. Please also give credit to where you found the pattern (although this is not required, it is much appreciated).

When in doubt, ask me. If you are not sure whether you will be infringing upon copyrights, then feel free to send me an email (rachel@crochetspot.com) to ask. I’ll be happy to answer your question.

These copyrights can also be applied to other crochet patterns you find online from other designers, with the exception of selling your crocheted items. Not all designers allow you to sell finished crocheted items made from their patterns, so be sure to ask before doing.

Thanks in advance for respecting the copyright laws!

SIBOL – Sunshine International Blankets of Love

Posted in News on April 14th, 2010 by A Guest Writer – 2 Comments

A Guest Post by Sue M.

SIBOL is an online knitting and crocheting group with members all across the world. We make ‘Sunshine Blankets’ out of knitted and crocheted squares for the elderly in the UK.

The elderly are sometimes forgotten about often sitting lonely in nursing homes and hospitals as families tend to have very busy lives with limited time to visit. We are hoping that a gift of a handmade blanket will be like ‘a ray of sunshine’ when an elderly person receives one. Sending love and warmth knowing that someone cares about them and that the blanket will bring a smile to their face!

‘Sunshine Blankets’ are to be donated to nursing homes, hospitals and charities in the UK.

If you would like to learn more, or get involved in making squares please visit the SIBOL blog .

‘Lets send some sunshine!’.

Book Review: Cuddly Crochet

Posted in News on April 10th, 2010 by Rachel – 10 Comments
Recently I received Stacey Trock’s Cuddly Crochet book in the mail for review. As much as I like to talk about fluffy rainbows and sunshines, below is my complete and honest review of the book, telling you the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I have to say that the Cuddly Crochet book has one of the most unique concepts for baby crochet patterns. The book features 10 baby toys, with each toy having either a blanket, hat, or bib to match! That’s a total of 20 crochet patterns. The book is themed around cute stuffed animals: teddy bear, pig, mouse, bunny, and penguin, to name a few. At the end of the book there’s mysterious toy truck. Maybe this is for all the boy babies?
