Crochet Pattern: Chic and Simple Neck Warmer

By Emilee Gettle – 10 Comments
I love to go for walks on fall evenings. Since the temperature has been dropping briskly, I like to have a little something around my neck to keep me toasty. I hate to pull out the full fledge scarf this time of year, so I decided a neck warmer would do just the trick. This project is so simple! Depending on the type of yarn you use, it can look dressy for a night out or it can be quite practical while you’re getting down and dirty winterizing. Not only do I love this pattern, but it even looks cute on my 3 year old daughter!

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 20″ (51 cm) long and 4″ (10 cm) wide

Materials:
Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 50 yards)
Crochet Hook H (5 mm)
Sewing Needle
Sewing Thread
1 Button (1″ in diameter)

crochet yarn size 4

Gauge:
3 dc = 1รขโ‚ฌย (3 cm)
1 row = 1″ (3 cm)

Crochet Pattern: Chic and Simple Neck Warmer
Row 1: ch 15, dc in fourth ch from hook (ch 3 counts as 1 dc now and throughout) and in each ch across: 12 dc

Row 2-31: ch 3, turn, dc in each dc across: 12 dc

Once you have completed 31 rows, finish off and weave in loose ends.

Finishing
Count up 5 rows from the end and sew the button in the center of the row. Use the spaces between the double crochet stitches on the opposite end of the neck warmer as button holes.

This is beautiful! And I agree: sometimes it’s nice to grab something like this other than a long scarf.

I’ve made similar many times. Long scarves can be cumbersome.

Glad you all like this pattern! I know I sure do and today is the start to our cold weather, so I have a feeling I’ll be wearing it a lot! ๐Ÿ™‚ The yarn I used is an acrylic faux angora medium worsted weight. I can’t wear real angora, so this is the next best thing, plus it looks a little bit more high end, I think! ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you have any suggestions on making the neckwarmer in child sizes? I specifically need help with 10 year olds and a 1 1/2 year old. I am just not sure if it should be the same width, and I don’t know what length either. Any help is appreciated.

I also would like to make one in a child size, preferably for a 3yr old.

I know this is from 2011, but were you working this at all just in back loops? I notice such a nice ridged look. Thanks for the nice pattern!
