Crochet Pattern: Christmas Pickle

By Candace – 3 Comments
The Christmas pickle is part of a German-American tradition in which the children of the family search for the pickle on the Christmas tree. The first one to find it gets a reward such as the privilege of opening the first gift or good luck. You can adjust the difficulty of this game in your own home by adjusting the size of your hook and yarn or the color of your yarn to make the search easier or harder. crochet_christmas_pickle

I love this! We always would search for the pickle in the tree on Christmas Eve, and whoever found it first got a small present to open early. Thanks for sharing!

What a cute idea, even pinned it to Pinterest for many to see, and maybe get you some new folks here. Thank you for sharing.

I just finished making my “Christmas pickle’ using this pattern! I’d never heard of this tradition, despite being of German and Norwegian descent, but that’s okay! I thought it was a great idea! The pattern is fun to do. I used worsted weight and a 3.75 (F) hook so my pickle turned out about 3 inches long. Just right, imho!
