Hi Penny, yes, it will turn out bigger if you use yarn. Even if you use a smaller hook, it will still turn out to be bigger than the thread version. If you don’t mind a larger ring, go for it! Also, there is always a first time for everything, you can try to crochet with thread if you’d like

I would love to try this, but have never crocheted with any type of thread before. Would it be possible to use yarn instead of thread to make these rings or would it turn out to be too big? I would imagine you would have to use a fairly small hook if you could use yarn, do you think a F or E hook would work? Would appreciate any thoughts in this idea. Thank You!

Just about to start making this ring. Can’t wait to see how I do! It’s my first time using crochet thread and numbered, as opposed to lettered, hooks. I thought I would point out, though, that your material list says that the 1 hook is a 2.35mm, but my 1 hook says 2.75mm. I’m going to use it anyway, so I hope it still works!

I made a couple of these to match my granddaughter’s favorite pink and purple outfit but I made the “ring” just large enough to put a shoe lace through. I slid one to the center of each shoe lace before lacing her shoes. She loves her “fower”s and is now actually eager to wear her shoes. Thanks for the inspiration.
