Crochet Pattern: Crossbody Pocket Purse

By Emilee Gettle – 21 Comments
This super simple project is the perfect purse to keep in your large bag. If you need a few dollars to run in the store, throw on this little crossbody beauty and you’ll have what you need without a backache from carrying a large purse for those quick errands. They also work great for simple gifts and can be stashed away for the holidays. My daughter especially enjoys keeping a few of these little purses handy for her dolls and play money. Whenever we go to town, she has to bring her own pocket purse and be just like mommy!

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 4″ (10 cm) wide, 4″ (10 cm) tall

Materials:
Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 50 yards)
Crochet Hook I (5.50 mm)
3/4″ button (for closure)
crochet yarn size 4

Gauge:
4 dc stitches = 1 inch
2 dc rows = 1 inch

Love IT!!!! I do a simular version using a sc stitch instead so nothing will fall or poke out and made them larger for every day use for adults 🙂 You can also use contrasting colors for a different look (color A for body and Color B for the strap). The possibilities are endless.

Really cute! Just concerned that the strap is weak, so I have a tip for anyone who is making this: Ch the specified amount, then sl st back down, so your strap is still thin, but much stronger.

    OOH, so cute!!

  9. Nice! Here is another tip for making a stronger strap and also making it fast. Instead of making the chain with just one strand of yarn, use 2 strands held together and chain to desired length. Also if you still want to use the double crochet stitch (which is faster than single crochet), but also make the bag firmer, use a smaller hook and check the gauge. If the height or width is less and you want to make it the same, adjust by adding more stitches and/or rows.

I was wondering if any of you girls would like to make a yoga mat pattern in the near future? I am doing a yoga class this Monday and was looking up patterns and I was very disappointed at how little yoga patterns there are out there.

Oh yeah, I submitted a request about a week or so ago and I know yall are hard at work, but is someone working on a book cover pattern? Just curious. 🙂

    Hi

Thanks for sharing this pattern-I love it! My niece has asked for bag like this only larger…to fit her school supplies in. How can I increase the size? Thanks so much!

  13. Sarah Dee says:

@Diedra: Just make the foundation chain longer and add more rows.

This is a great pattern. Thank you so much for the pattern and the picture of the finished pocket purse. I have some grandaughters that would love to have these. I plan on making a different color for each of the girls. The wonderful thing about this is that all ages would love and appreciate it. Now that I think about it, I’ll bet my daughter would like one of these too. Thanks again 🙂

  15. Emilee says:

Diedra make your first chain longer and continue accordingly! You can make this purse as big as you want! 🙂 Thanks to everyone for the comments and tips!

I made this purse in about an hour, and I’m a novice. I love this pattern, and can see making a larger, matching one, so my daughter and I can be twinsies!

    Thank you, Emilee!

    Hi there!
I’ve made several change purses from your pattern. They come in so handy and become a wrapping when giving gifts. Thank you so much.

I like the pattern. Unsure of the “sl st both sides” process. Any pics of the process? I’m an extremely visual person. Also, if add the strap for a 3 year old child any suggestions on length.
