The directions are correct, the idea is to stick the hook into the "ice cream" then into the other side of the cherry to join the end of the cherry to the beginning and attach the ice cream at the same time. But if it doesn't work for you can just not insert it into the ice cream and sew it on when you're done. Hey Kat,

They are so cute! I was going to use one as a magnet for the fridge - but did not know how to get a magnet to stick to the yarn! I guess I'd have to use a good glue, huh?
