Crochet Pattern: Mini Sweater Ornament / Applique

By Corinne Munger – 5 Comments
After I made the first one of these, the ideas started flowing… make them in all different colors, attach to string as if on a clothesline, how about in your child’s school colors, or make a set for coasters? These can also be used as an applique on whatever you’d like. They’re small at only 3 1/2″ high and quick to make. You can embroider letters on the front, or use more than one color and make patterns. Lot’s of fun for a cute little shape. Hint: Don’t make the sleeves as long as the pattern suggests, and you have a T-Shirt shape instead! Have fun with this! sweater mini 003

Crochet Pattern: Mini Sweater Ornament / Applique

Body
Row 1: ch 15, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn: 14 sc
Rows 2 – 13: sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn: 14 sc
Rows 15 -16: sc in next 5 sc, sl st in next 4 sc, sc in last 5 sc, ch 1, turn: 14 sts
Row 17: hdc in first 5 sc, ch 1, sl st in next 4 sl st, ch 1, hdc in last 5 sc, ch 1: 14 sts
Do not finish off, continue with sleeve.

Sleeves
Note: When making the sleeve, you want to make sure that your increases are on the underside of the sleeve and skipped stitches (decreases) are at the top side. This is what allows the sleeve to point downwards.
Start by making 5 sc along the edge where you want the sleeve to be, ch 1, turn.

Row 1: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc, ch 1, turn: 5 sc
Row 2: skip first, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn: 5 sc

Repeat row 1 – 2, 3 more times. Then repeat row 1, 1 more time. Finish off.

Attach yarn to other side of sweater at the top of the shoulder and repeat the same steps as for first sleeve.
Finish off.

Attach yarn to one of the bottom corners of the sweater and crochet evenly around entire sweater in single crochet. Finish off, weave in ends.

Corrine, you’ve come up with a most novel “ornament!” I love small things like this and will probably take a stab at making one in some old red fingering yarn. How old you ask? A one ounce skein for $.99 by Red Heart. LOL Thanks for posting this. :o)

  3. Corrine, I am loving your posts. This shirt is cute and reminded me of an origami project I once made which was an origami t-shirt and origami pants adhered to a bookmark. It was really cute. With a scaled down yarn and hook, maybe I could recreate it in crochet! 🙂
