Crochet Pattern: Striped Poncho

By Rachel Choi – 14 Comments

Add some flare to your outfit with this striped poncho! Ponchos are extra roomy and super comfortable to wear while adding a fun style to your wardrobe. It’s like having your favorite blanket wrapped around you all day, but having it be much more fashionable acceptable. This pattern features a series of netted stripes which creates an easy drape and keeps the poncho from being too hot and heavy. The roominess on the poncho allows for it to fit most adult women from extra skinny to extra large. Crocheted in one piece, no sewing is required for this pattern!

What a great pattern for the upcoming spring days when you arent sure if it will be warm or still a little cool out. This would be just the perfect thing to grab on the way out the door, and very pretty to boot. Love the netting.

    Ooo! I love it! It’s so 70’s. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Coming from me, that’s a compliment!!

You publish very nice clothing patterns yet they are for tiny women. Plus size women support your site also. Will you be including such patterns in the near future?

    Thanks!

One size fits all is the best!! I can’t wait to make it.

    Rachel,

I wasn’t specifically talking about this poncho but your wearable projects in general. It would nice to see a project centered around plus-size folks. Just a suggestion! Besides one size fits all is not always the solution.

Cute Poncho! I’m starting on it now 🙂
I’ve made the circular vest from your pattern and it turned out great!!

P.S. I’m a plus size too! I find that most patterns on this site are great with having the different sizes for small women to plus sizes (unlike other patterns I find online and in books). Thanks for that! I’m always amazed at how you’re able to figure out the different sizes. It must take you a long time.

Hi Rachel, does the patten include instructions for substituting yarn? Would love to make this in size 8 or 10 crochet cotton since I’m in the Philippines.

How long did it take to make it and how much yarn

    • Rachel says:

Hi Latricia, the poncho uses approximately 1500 yards of yarn. I crocheted it off and on for week. But if you had more time to work straight through it would probably be faster. It also depends on how fast you crocheted, so my time probably isn’t that relevant.

I like it. It’s inspiring me. I think I want to create my own poncho pattern after looking at this one. I think I’d like a little different stitch pattern. HMMMM. Off to do some research! 🙂 I have my own purse pattern I’ve made but this will be my first clothing pattern to design. Fun, fun, fun!

    Everyone,

I’m not a plus size any more and create my own patterns when I feel the need. I believed this
was a forum where suggestions could be made by anyone visiting here. Looks like I was
incorrect on that one. My statement still stands though because it’s always good to include
focus on many different sizes. That must be why there are many different sizes and shapes
    in people.

    Have a wonderful week!

    Thanks for Crochet Spot.
