Yes, you can use other weights of yarn. Just follow the instructions within the pattern to make sure the finished shrug will fit. Have fun with it!

would this work with other yarn widths? I have some dk yarn that I want to make into a bolero/shrug and this pattern looks beautiful.

Rachel, I just downloaded this pattern. Skimmed through the directions. VERY easy and I am anxious to make one for my 3 yr. old granddaughter. Really love the fact the pattern can be customized to fit anyone. Thanks for a winning pattern!!
