Rachel - I've been crocheting since I was five years old... often during stressful times. I took crochet to the first Gulf war with me, and crocheted an entire scarf during a scud missile attack, but yesterday was the biggie for me, yesterday I had to go to the hospital, the emergency room, my doctor thought I may have meningitis, and I needed an IV and a spinal tap and lots of other very scary and very uncomfortable procedures for 8 hours before they finally released me as meningitis free. In the midst of all the chaos I asked my husband to go out to the car and see if my crochet bag was there still from the day before... he thought I was crazy but he went, it was, and he brought it back to me... with an IV, through a spinal tap, in and out of CAT scans, I crocheted. I was almost manic about it. But it kept me from freaking out and it kept me from crying, and when we left the hospital I had 10 of your lovely roses and 20 leaves (I make varigated ones) to go with them finished.
You are not the only one who crochets through stress. :) I think we should teach it it mental hospitals to anxiety patients. Personally. :)

Glad that it's up and working again- and yes- crocheting does relieve stress. I've been watching the Yankees blow a 6-0 lead to the Red Sox and started crocheting to relieve the stress- finished a baby ghan I had been working on and then made a dishcloth!
