For Christmas I usually crochet ornaments. I dont crochet with fine yarn. I like to use medium weight. I have made for my family with children. Mr and Mrs. Santa Clause, Mr and Mrs Snowman, crocheted wreaths and Christmas trees for their table tops also tree skirts and stockings. I like the decoration ideas as a family gift and they are used year after year.

My family and friends get to pick the gift (color and pattern) of their choice that way I know they will use it. I usually make throws for them so they can snuggle while watching TV. I tell them that they ar hugs from me! Seems to work, because when they come to visit they take what I have made. That makes me so happy because I know they truly want them and will use them.

I am currently in the middle of making Christmas presents for friends... I asked a bunch of my friends if they would honestly wear or use something if I crocheted it for them... The ones that said yes, get a hand-crocheted gift from me hehe :)

Dishcloths, sports rugs for my little brother (in the shape of a football and basketball), baby blankets, and a plarn shower caddy for my sister who's going to college are a few of the things I have crocheted as gifts. So far, everyone's been pleased with them, and the items aren't huge commitments for the receivers. Maybe someday I'll branch out into wearable gifts...

Last Christmas I bought some end run cotton yarn bulk packs at my local craft store and made string type market bags for al of the families on my list. The other personal wrapped gifts were put into the bag for each family. This made for easy transport and sorting. Everyone was very pleased with them.

I had an aunt who sewed the most beautiful dolls and stuffed animals that she would sell at craft shows. All of my cousins and me looked forward to trips to Auntie Irene's house because we sometimes left with homemade prizes. We always got them as Christmas gifts. So, yes, I do give crocheted (and other hand crafted) items as gifts because I so appreciated those I received from Auntie Irene.

BTW, I LOVE the idea of the tag with charity suggestions because I once made a beautiful item for a friend who sort of turned her nose up at it because it wasn't store bought. I know it's sitting in a closet somewhere and I wish it would find its way to someone who'll appreciate it.

One year I crocheted 17 watchtower caps for my 17 grandchildren for Christmas. Yes I most of the time do send crochetitems to my grandchildren. Now most of them are getting married. so this year I am sending Potholders , dishclothes, and coasters for the married ones for christmas.

(Sorry for typing in small letters, since I broke my wrist, I seem to miss letters in my words, if I crochet in small letters I do better)
