Hi Carma, to make the ball bigger you'd have to do more increases and decreases before the middle rounds, and you should also crochet more of the middle rounds. Here's a tutorial on how to crochet a basic sphere that explains how to make it bigger: How to Crochet a Sphere

i just did a search for a crocheted ball ornament, and yours popped right up! thanks so much for giving me a pattern to work from. i kind of stumbled onto how to do it just by fiddling around, but it makes me feel better to work from a pattern. one question, though: how would i make the ornaments bigger around than two inches? do i just increase the amount of rounds in the middle that are the same amount of stitches, or would i have to do more increasing and decreasing before and after those rounds? anyway, thank you for the pattern. i am trying to make some for my friends and family for christmas.

I was looking for a larger ball pattern for my cats. I added catnip and large bells inside with cotton filler, also finishing it off without the loop. This was perfect and the girls are loving them. Thank-you so much!

Hi Debbie, here’s the tutorial for doing the decrease: http://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-single-crochet-decrease/
After you do the decrease, you’ll make 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 3 single crochet stitches. Let me know if you need more help.

I’m a crochet newbie, and I’ve reached the part of the pattern above that says “decrease, sc in next 3 sc”. How do I do that? In really simple terms please, as I really am new at this

Thanks for this pattern! I am actually going to make a bunch of these to hang in the closet — we’ve had an onslaught of clothes moths this year, so these will be perfect stuffed with a little cedar and polyfill. They shouldn’t take up too much room, either.

thanks so much for this pattern! i plan on making a bunch of these for my christmas tree this year. much safer option for those of us with babies that will be grabbing stuff off the tree.
