I’m having trouble beginning the side of the basket. Can you post a picture of what it means to “dc in both loops of each dc around”?

  6. Juli says:

thanks for your help. my basket came out looking more like a purse than a basket lol. that’s ok though, I just needed something to put my niece’s Easter presents in 🙂

    • Rachel says:

lol, if I flatten my basket, it looks like a purse too! maybe you can put something hard and round on the bottom (maybe cardboard) to keep it stiff 🙂

    hi there,

i so enjoy your patterns…i am reading the instructions for the easy basket…my question is about the crochet tips for increasing…it reads “Round 5: ch 2, (2 dc in next sc, sc in next 3 dc) around, sl st in ch-2: 48 dc Round 6: ch 2, (2 dc in next sc, sc in next 4 dc) around, sl st in ch-2: 60 dc”…should those sc read dc…thanks for your help.

  10. Faith says:

I am working on the Easter basket pattern my only question is that I try to increase the width and I am not getting the number of stitches that I am suppose to get and do I go in both loops to increase the width or do I go in the back loops. And then from there do I continue with the instructions to increase the height.

  11. Rachel says:

Hi Faith, when you increasing rounds you go into both loops. The total number of stitches were offset, I just fixed it, so what it says now is correct. After you do as much of the increasing as you want, you will go back to round 4 of the original pattern (total number of stitches when you go back to the original pattern will not be the same).

  12. Faith says:

Thanks Rachel I will try it again today I thought I was losing it. Thank you so much for your help and by the way I just love love your patterns. I might be purchasing your messenger bag pattern so that way I can use it for my books for school.

  13. Faith says:

Ok I have another question I have done the 72 stitches so when I go back to round 4 and it says 36 stitches am I suppose to decrease?

    • Rachel says:

Nope. There will be 72 stitches total in each row for now on since you increased. Following the pattern, but ignore the total number of stitches at the end.

  14. Faith says:

Ok thanks Rachel I will. I can’t wait to see how this will turn out since this is my first time making Easter baskets.

  15. jami says:

How do you get the handle to stand up?

    • Rachel says:

Hi Jami, the handle should stand up naturally after you sew it on. If you sew about 1/2″ to 1″ of the ends of the handle to the inside of the basket, it’ll make it more secure.

  16. Shirley says:

I’ve worked several rows and it is nothing but a circle. When does the “basket” form? What am I doing wrong?????

    Thanks

  17. Rachel says:

Hi Shirley, the bottom of the basket is suppose to be a circle. Starting on round 4, the basket will get taller since you are not increasing anymore. But you will still be working in a circular fashion around the basket.

  21. salisha says:

ive tried this easy basket it turned out wonderful thanks

  22. Christy Marie says:

Does this basket come out all totally flat? Or does that depend on how i crochet?

    • Rachel says:

Hi Christy Marie, rounds 1 – 3 creates a flat circle for the bottom of the basket, then rounds 4 – 7 make the side of the basket, which should stand up since you are not increasing the number of stitches in each round. The basket is pretty flexible since it is made out of yarn, so you can lay it flat if you’d like.

  23. shelley hester says:

I want to try the above basket, and have a couple questions. In round #4 it states work in both loops, does that mean I go in from the front? And should i increase the pattern does this mean I will do the same in #4 of the increase? One more please do you have anymore basket patterns to share.?

    Thank You
    Shelley hester

    • Rachel says:

Hi Shelly, you can click on the reference to the “both loop” in round 4 and it will take you to a post that has a picture of what it’s referring to. Basically you are going to put your look under both the front and back loops like you would normally crochet. If you would like to increase the pattern, please take a look at the crochet tips at the end of the post that discuss how to increase the basket size.

  24. Christina says:

Rachel, I just got around to making this, And it look NOTHING like the picture above. The sides, are droopy and don’t stand up. All in all, it looks like a basket but I’m not happy with the way it turned out. I am going to try again with thinner and thicker yarn.

  25. shelley hester says:

Hello again, for some reason my stitches keep increasing. Now according to the above instructions, after round #3 you crochet in both loops. Now when I increase, using the “TIPS” section do I also crochet into both loops for round #4. And is this the only round that I do this procedure or do I continue this untill i reach my desired size.?

    Thank You

    Shelley hester

    • Rachel says:

Shelly, yes you only crochet in both loops on round 4. So you would increase until it is a big as you want. Then go back and do round 4.

  26. shelley hester says:

Rachel, first allow me to say thank You so much, for your imediate replys to my e-mails and they have been quite helpful. My new question is that i have already made three of theese baskets, and in doing so, I worked the increased rounds in the back loops. So am I to understand that round #4 is the only round worked in the back loops, and none of the others? i want to make sure that I am following and understanding your directions correctly. Hopefully this will be the last question, and i do plan to check out other patterns on your site as well.

    Shelley

Adorable! Quick too- I was able to finish it in one sitting! : )

  28. Darlene says:

im having trouble with crocheting the handle onto the basket

  29. Darlene says:

ok so then would i have to make a slipknot first then pull through lol im new but it says easy though lol

    • Rachel says:

You can start by attaching the yarn end to the end of the work where you want the start your sewing. You can start with a slip knot, but you probably don’t need it for what you’re doing. It’s like modified sewing rather than crocheting.

  30. LInda Ryan says:

With doing the basket, if I put the handle on it doesnt seem to make all the sides stand up. I think I am doing something wrong. All I have is a hande and the other side will lay down and it wont hld the eggs.

    • Rachel says:

Hi Linda, it is a soft basket since it is crocheted. It’s not as sturdy as a regular wicker baskets would be, so that may be why it seems to lay down when you put things in it. If you’d like you can line the inside with cardboard or some other solid material to give it more strength.

I made this basket, finished off the top with a scallop stitch. I used 100% cotton peaches n cream yarn. Then I strched it. Will be using it for a floergirl basket in my daughters wedding. When she decides her coloros, we will weave thin satin ribbon through the basket. It was so easy and turned out so cute. Thank you for the pattern.

  37. Lisa says:

I’m sending this to ask did u use 2strands of yarn so it can stand so neat up?
I’m doing this for a lil boy and didn’t want and get yarn and didn’t have enough.
And, handles did u use anything extra to hold n place?
Sorry, crochet for a year and decided to do my grand baby a basket. Thx u
    N advance.

    • Rachel Choi says:

      Hi Lisa,
I didn’t use 2 strands, but that is a good idea! Using 2 strands will give you a stiffer basket. The basket in the photo is soft. Nothing extra needed for the handles, but you’re welcome to add to it if you’d like.

  38. Sukanya says:

    Hello Rachel,

is it a normal double crochet we need to do??

Love this pattern. I made some using raffia. They have it in all different colors. Also, when using yarn, after finishing, I sprayed my finished basket with Spray Stiffen Stuff. It makes a nice basket. Thanks Rachel for “sharing ❤️.”
