From a crocheter who loves granny squares: HORRORS! The colors are reminiscent of a nasty 70s afghan done in scrap yarn. On the positive side? I would definitely make this dress but with LusterSheen yarn and in a fab color combination that would be stunning. BUT: Cate can certainly look fab in almost anything she would put on- my, she’s brave- LOL.

I agree with an earlier comment…awful. If it was done in a solid color or maybe a bit of sparkle but no, it looks like an afghan!

Cate Blanchett is a bold and talented woman who can get away with bold clothing choices. This IS bold and she looks great anyway.

I agree that I might have suggested a different color palette and smaller squares.

Wouldn’t it be smashing in ombre’ -ed reds or blues or purples? Each square a different arrangement of hues (from light to dark, I mean) but all the same color? Hmmm….

I think it’d look better made of smaller granny squares. I really think an afghan was cut up for this dress. The black ruffles are a sweet addition.

Bravo, she make proud to be a crocheter. when I look at a pattern, I don’t see the negativity, I see the work and the imagination and the love in the work, you can always use ideas.
