Hi Carol, to do a bpdc in the dc just completed, it's like working a regular bpdc (as shown in this tutorial) just that you'll be making it in the double crochet stitch you just made. This means you'll have to move your hook to work around the stitch you just made instead of the next stitch in the row.

Hi Heather, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. But when you alternate bpdc and dc stitches you are suppose to have a textured look where the bpdc is raised compared to the dc.

Hi Rachel,
I just made a hat that has an alternating pattern of double stitch and back post double stitch. It's a great hat, but the transition from the ds to the bpds is really noticible. Do you know of any way to blend that transition between stitches so the "seam" isn't so noticable?
Thanks!
Heather

Hi Marcy, I'm glad you're able to see the front post clearly. For the back post, the hook goes in and out the same places the front post does, the difference is that it's on the back side instead. So for the back post, you can pretend you're doing the front post, but insert your hook from the back of the work instead of the front.

I am looking at your picture of back post crochet, but cannot tell where the hook is going in and coming out. Front post seems very clear, but this back post is a mystery.

Thanks

I'm having SO much trouble with front and back post stitching! Are you going in front of or behind the entire "post"? Are you pushing in through the middle of the post and going in from the front or the back? I tried making the basket weave washcloth which uses these stitches and it looked nothing like the picture even though I felt I understood the stitches.
