Rachel - the shawl is beautiful, I'm sure your aunt will love it. I'm making dishrags/potholders this year for my mom and sisters. I wanted to make hats for the kids in the family, but don't think I'll have time this year...so many ideas, so little time!

I had such high hopes of giving everyone home-made gifts this year, but, poof, the time has flown by and I have very few actually completed. I am the worst offender in the WIP category. I get bored so easily when I'm doing something that is just the same ole, same ole over and over! Yuck. I even have trouble with sleeves.....after I've made one, it is torture to do the other! I'm just going to give the ones I have done, and continue on and make the rest for next year! I have made a gorgeous pair of slippers with the toe part covered with little thread flowers and leaves, with a crystal bead in the center of each flower! I was really proud of the finished product! I crocheted a set of 3 little thread bears for one friend and a cute little fairy doll for my grand niece. However the afghan that I am making to look like a Rothko painting for my niece and nephew and the red, fun fur-trimmed coat I started for my sister will just have to wait till next year! Hopefully, I will be more focused and organized next year and actually get it all done!

Hi Rachel,

Why not make your mother something she will use - cloths and towels for the kitchen or a scarf/hat and/or mittens? Another idea is a quick centerpiece (round or a strip from one end to the other) for the dining room table. You could use #3 or #5 crochet cotton.

I gave my mother a shawl in November as she doesn't live nearby and I won't see her again before Christmas. I'm halfway through another shawl for my mother-in-law. I made a Santa hat for my 5 year old son and gave it to him last week (he has to wear it during the excitment leading up to Christmas, of course!). I've made my hubby a hat and am working on a scarf - will find out if I have enough of the same color for mittens... and/or maybe I'll finally finish sewing together an Aran afghan for him.

If I have time, I'll make something for my visiting sister-in-law. I also have plans to make a top down sweater for my son, but not likely before Christmas. He really appreciates the handmade things. He knows Gramma (mother-in-law) is making him some red mittens and keeps asking her when they will be finished!

I was planning to make my father a lapghan (he's a senior now you know!) Just teasing.

I'm NOT making anything for my sister, brother-in-law or step-mother. I don't think they really appreciate it.

I'm so proud of you. I'm still trying to make up my mind what to give whom. I'm making lots of things. I just haven't decided where they should go.
