Real Men Crochet

Let me tell you, crocheting isn’t just for Grandma in her rocking chair and it’s not just for women either! Real men, they crochet too.

I remember when I was about 10 years old, there was a boy I went to school with. He was the kind that always played sports and got into trouble. The typical boy as I would like to call him. But guess what, he crocheted too, and better than I did!

There’s even top crochet designers who are men, Drew Emborsky, to throw out a name. Plus plenty of men crochet groups and crochet books just for men.

So for all the people, who always ask me whether men crochet, the answer is yes!

Do you know a man who crochets?

I taught one of my friends to crochet a few years ago. I don’t know if he still does it. We have kind of lost contact with each other.

My boyfriend tried it with me the 1st night. Since we were both beginners it was fun. I remember we got so into it that an hour passed as we crocheted. He turned his little swatch into a purse for me by sweing up the sides. He never picked it up again, but that night he really enjoyed it.

funnie enough after all these years of “knowing” my dad, I found out last week that he too crochets. I went to his house with one of my projects and he told he that he makes beanies. I thought that was pretty cool. Now we have more in common

There was a boy in high school who had anger management problems and we both had a mutual friend that, unfortunately, was killed. Our friend used to be able to calm him down with some breathing methods, but when she passed away he (besides being incredibly hurt and angry) tried to find other methods, but when nothing worked he came to me and asked me to teach him to crochet. Now he churns out blanket and beanie after blanket and beanie for preemie charities. I’m proud of him.

My two brothers and I were stuck in the backseat of a Plymouth for 2 days as we drove from Texas to Tennessee one summer when we were kids. I was probably 11 and had just learned to crochet. My brothers picked up hooks and learned to chain/single crochet to help pass the time. It was funny to see them awkwardly try to handle the yarn and the hook. Once we got home from vacation, they were too embarrassed to say that they had ever learned to crochet. I teased them in front of their friends every chance I had! I totally forgot about that! Thanks for jogging my memory!

I want to teach my fiancee to crochet so he can help me churn out amigurumi during the convention season. But he’s too busy playing guitar to sit down and learn…

  9. I am a man who crochets! Or a boy who crochets, I guess, since I’m only 26.

There’s nothing more rewarding that taking what amounts to a long length of string and turning it into a garment that can keep you warm in the winter. It’s borderline magical. I need some new socks? I’ll just MAKE them. It’s empowering, like when our forefathers used to go out into the woods with an ax and somehow end up with a house. Mind blowing.

    Though I think you’re classified as a man at 26. I’m 25 and I don’t call myself a girl. lol

My 3 brothers will when they have the chance. They knit and sew too. My family for the most part doesn’t assign gender roles, which I love. It definitely helps during long car rides.

Wow! I also thought only women crocheted!

My grandson, who just turned 9, asked me to teach him how to crochet. I was so surprised!
I gave him ball of yarn and a crochet hook, and he’s slowly getting the hang of it!

Huge round of applause for all the guys out there that crochet and also for the women(generally) that teach them. My brothers can crochet knit and sew too. My husband hasn’t learned yet n seems kinda hesitant but I can tell he’s intrigued! So happy to find this page so I can now show him that yes infact, real men do crochet!

I retired 3 yrs. ago and learned how to crochet watching YouTube videos. I now crochet and make hats and give them to our local children’s shelters. This has been a very rewarding (and meditative) hobby for me. Who cares if I’m a guy? I enjoy it and that’s what counts, right? Hats off to all the guys out there who crochet and have joined the women and support the craft
