Crochet Pattern: American Flag

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 30th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 1 Comment
I’m sure some of you are firing up the grill, buying corn on the cob at the farmer’s market and stocking up on your secret BBQ sauce. Perhaps you’re thumping away at the watermelons in the garden looking for a perfectly ripe melon to wow your 4th of July guests. While you prepare for all the festivities take a little time to remember that our freedom came at a cost. Brave men and women have carried our flag into battle for our freedom. This week, make a few of these flag pins to share with those who have served in the military, as well as your family and friends.

Crochet Pattern: Strawberry

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 26th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit!

Crochet Pattern: Pinwheel

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 12th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 14 Comments
Now that we have some breezy warm afternoons upon us I’m sure you’ve been finding pinwheels at the local dollar shops. Kids can’t resist them. Oftentimes we see them for party decor or even replicated with fabric for quilt blocks. This week I decided to try crocheting a pinwheel and this pattern is what resulted. You can use this project to spruce up throw pillows and other home accessories. Make it out of finer yarn and it makes great appliques, pins, or hair accessories. I used two colors for this pattern but you can easily make each blade out of a different color.

Crochet Pattern: Flower Hair Pin

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 3rd, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 13 Comments
This flower is so easy and simple to crochet but it can be used a million ways. Lately I’ve seen crocheted flowers popping up everywhere on clothes, toys, accessories, and home decor. I love the fact that they can be made in little time and yet these simple appliques can really spice up anything their applied to. In your spare time crochet several using scrap yarn and save them in a jar for upcoming projects. If you have some extra bobby pins around the house this is a great way to infuse new life into them.

Crochet Pattern: Watermelon Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 19th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
One thing my garden can’t be without is several hills of watermelon. My family can’t resist it’s mouthwatering sweetness; it’s my daughter’s favorite summer treat! So, I created this watermelon applique to embelish her summer dresses. I’m also going to sew it on one of her white t-shirts to add a touch of pizzaz! Why pay lots of money for something similar at a boutique when you can make it yourself for little to nothing! This applique would also be great sewn onto picnic napkins to catch some of the juicy sweetness of summer’s favorite fruit.

Here comes Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail! It’s time to start crocheting some projects for Easter. This quick and easy bunny is a great pattern for beginners. It is so fast to make and can be used in a variety of ways. It’s also a great scrap saver project for all those extra yarn bits that are lying around. This chubby bunny could be sewn on your child’s Easter outfit, made into a pin, used to embelish linens or baby gifts. If you like chocolate bunnies, then swap out the white yarn for a cocoa brown color. Have fun and happy crocheting this week!

Crochet Pattern: Ribbon Flower

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on February 10th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 6 Comments
I am already missing spring. I can’t wait to see all my fall bulbs start to come alive with spring flowers and bring back a rainbow of color to our rather gray yard. This week I decided to try something different and use ribbon instead of yarn. I had so much fun with this project. I think this flower would look sweet on a headband, dress, coat, or as a stylish bow on a handmade gift. One thing I learned while making this project was to be sure the ribbon you use is similar on both the right and wrong sides.

Crochet Pattern: Whimsy Snowman Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 20th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? As a kid snow on Christmas was a pretty high priority, but not so much that we couldn’t drive to my Grandma’s house for all the holiday festivities. Those years have long since passed and since a white Christmas isn’t in my forecast for this year I thought I’d whip up a little snowman applique to remind me of all those warm Christmas time memories. This frosty fellow would be perfect perched on your gift tags, for embellishing kid’s clothes or any other project that might need a bit of sprucing up for the holidays.

Crochet Pattern: Christmas Holly Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 6th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
While digging through my boxes of holiday decorations I found garland after garland of holly. So, this week’s pattern is, you guessed it, a holly applique. I think this would look so sweet around the hem of a child’s dress. It could also be used to spruce up your Christmas gift tags. You could also turn it into an ornament and send it in your holiday cards as a small gift. If you give baskets of baked goods to your neighbors, you could sew this applique on the towel lining the basket. Your creativity is the only limit to the uses for this pattern. Have fun!

Crochet Pattern: Christmas Wreath Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 30th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 6 Comments
It’s that time of year again! Time to pull out all the Christmas decorations from the attic and spruce up your home. Every year I love searching for the perfect wreath for my door. As a special treat, I like taking a walk through the woods and cutting my own greenery. I bring it home and wire wrap it onto a grapevine wreath for an inexpensive but beautiful and welcome sight on our front door. This week I made a Christmas wreath applique, which is a great project when you need a little holiday embellishment quick. You could use it on cards, clothes and linens.
