Posted in Tutorials and Help on December 8th, 2015 by Molly Ferriter – 4 Comments
As a crochet-addict and mother of three, I am constantly trying to find ways to get my kids crocheting. The Chain Stitch Christmas Garland was perfect for us! This project is a great way to use the kids’ Christmas season excitement to teach them a few crocheting fundamentals. The garland is worked entirely in the crochet chain stitch, and the end result is a colorful, braided garland to hang on your tree, mantle piece, or anywhere else you wish. My kids chose to hand there’s on the cat; but that’s another story. hanging garland

How to Start Your Holiday Crochet Projects Now!

Posted in Fun Ramblings on July 2nd, 2013 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 3 Comments

On July 25, there will only be 153 crafting days before Christmas! Does that number make your crafty fingers itch? If not, try this: on the same day, there will only be 125 days before Hanukkah! How did 2013 become a year when Haunukah comes so early?

When it’s broken down that way, by days, I do feel a little panicked. I am old enough to know that we bring magic to the holiday season, and furthermore, that magic takes planning! I hate to admit this, but I usually intend to make many more gifts than I ever get around to making! Especially last year, I actually ended up buying a bunch of gifts. There’s nothing wrong with buying gifts, but as a crocheter, I LOVE making gifts, and I want to spread the handmade love to everyone I care about.

I had to come up with a solution for myself, so maybe you’d like to join me and make this a Crochet Spot community effort! Let’s start our holiday crafting now by following these steps!

Crochet Pattern: Whimsy Snowman Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 20th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? As a kid snow on Christmas was a pretty high priority, but not so much that we couldn’t drive to my Grandma’s house for all the holiday festivities. Those years have long since passed and since a white Christmas isn’t in my forecast for this year I thought I’d whip up a little snowman applique to remind me of all those warm Christmas time memories. This frosty fellow would be perfect perched on your gift tags, for embellishing kid’s clothes or any other project that might need a bit of sprucing up for the holidays.

Crochet Pattern: Christmas Holly Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 6th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
While digging through my boxes of holiday decorations I found garland after garland of holly. So, this week’s pattern is, you guessed it, a holly applique. I think this would look so sweet around the hem of a child’s dress. It could also be used to spruce up your Christmas gift tags. You could also turn it into an ornament and send it in your holiday cards as a small gift. If you give baskets of baked goods to your neighbors, you could sew this applique on the towel lining the basket. Your creativity is the only limit to the uses for this pattern. Have fun!

Crochet Pattern: Christmas Wreath Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 30th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 6 Comments
It’s that time of year again! Time to pull out all the Christmas decorations from the attic and spruce up your home. Every year I love searching for the perfect wreath for my door. As a special treat, I like taking a walk through the woods and cutting my own greenery. I bring it home and wire wrap it onto a grapevine wreath for an inexpensive but beautiful and welcome sight on our front door. This week I made a Christmas wreath applique, which is a great project when you need a little holiday embellishment quick. You could use it on cards, clothes and linens.

When I was a child I remember one afternoon, while I was taking my nap, my mom crocheted some play food for me. When I awoke there by my pillow was some sweet handmade goodies! Now it’s my turn, and as soon as my little girl awakes from her nap she’ll have these little cookies waiting for her. They are so easy to make and a lot of fun. You can whip up a batch in no time! Make a baker’s dozen and give in a small tin to a little one in your life. Don’t forget to take some for children on your baked good delivery route this holiday season!
