Crochet Pattern: Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 2nd, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
I love crocheting play food. As a child my mom crocheted me an assortment of goodies to add to my kitchen collection. I will never forget her handmade surprises she’d whip up for me during my nap times. I suppose these early memories are what keeps me coming back to patterns like this. Today I have a zero-calorie ice cream sandwich pattern for you to indulge in. This little project can be made in a matter of minutes and it is great to keep in your toy stash for when little ones come to visit. Don’t forget about the holidays! A basket of play food makes a great gift.

Crochet Pattern: Strawberry

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 26th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit!

Crochet Pattern: Popsicle

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 17th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
As a kid did you ever make your own popsicles? I fondly remember those little plastic molds complete with a popcicle stick lid. It was so much fun to make my own treats. However, I was too impatient to wait for the popsicle to harden. When I went to pull the treat from the frosty mold the stick inevitably slid out and I was left to frantically eat the slushy fruit juice. This week’s project reminds me of a raspberry all fruit bar. It’s a perfect project for kids. Plus, you won’t have to worry about this treat melting!

I really love quilting. Mixing and matching all my favorite fabrics together to make something beautiful is so rewarding. So, the thought occurred to me, why not use my favorite quilt patterns for crochet patterns? This week I made a bow tie quilt block pattern for you to enjoy. You could make this block into something special for a baby with all the beautiful baby yarn available. You don’t have to break the budget either; it’s a great way to use up scrap yarn. Make several blocks with different colored bowties to create an afghan.

I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream! Who can resist a frosty scoop of homemade strawberry ice cream atop a crispy, crunchy ice cream cone? Sounds pretty good to me right about now. This sweet project whips up in no time and can be used so many ways. You can sew this fat-free cone on a little girl’s dress or a baby’s blanket. You could stitch two together to make a little pouch for candies. Make several and sew them together to make a darling light scarf. You can also switch up the flavor appeal by changing the colors of the cones crowing glory.

Crochet Pattern: Ribbon Flower

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on February 10th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 6 Comments
I am already missing spring. I can’t wait to see all my fall bulbs start to come alive with spring flowers and bring back a rainbow of color to our rather gray yard. This week I decided to try something different and use ribbon instead of yarn. I had so much fun with this project. I think this flower would look sweet on a headband, dress, coat, or as a stylish bow on a handmade gift. One thing I learned while making this project was to be sure the ribbon you use is similar on both the right and wrong sides.

Crochet Pattern: Christmas Holly Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 6th, 2011 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
While digging through my boxes of holiday decorations I found garland after garland of holly. So, this week’s pattern is, you guessed it, a holly applique. I think this would look so sweet around the hem of a child’s dress. It could also be used to spruce up your Christmas gift tags. You could also turn it into an ornament and send it in your holiday cards as a small gift. If you give baskets of baked goods to your neighbors, you could sew this applique on the towel lining the basket. Your creativity is the only limit to the uses for this pattern. Have fun!
