Crochet Pattern: Travel Jewelry Pocket

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 30th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 4 Comments
Now that summer is almost here vacation season is upon us. My family and I do a lot of traveling all throughout the year. I love seeing historic sights, visiting the beach and hiking in the mountains. Through the years I have tried to get just a little more organized each time I pack. I try my best to think ahead and pack accordingly so that if my luggage gets thrown around I won’t have to worry. This week, since I have a trip ahead of me, I decided to crochet this jewelry pocket to protect my favorite necklace from bumps and scratches during my travels.

Crochet Pattern: Bow Tie Quilt Block

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 5th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I really love quilting. Mixing and matching all my favorite fabrics together to make something beautiful is so rewarding. So, the thought occurred to me, why not use my favorite quilt patterns for crochet patterns? This week I made a bow tie quilt block pattern for you to enjoy. You could make this block into something special for a baby with all the beautiful baby yarn available. You don’t have to break the budget either; it’s a great way to use up scrap yarn. Make several blocks with different colored bowties to create an afghan.

Crochet Pattern: Doll Sleep Sack

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on February 15th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
I love vintage pattern magazines from the 1940s and 1950s. Each one has several cute and relevant patterns that I can adjust for my lifestyle. Then, there are sometimes some that make me scratch my head and wonder what the designer was thinking! I remember as a child my mom telling me about the bleach bottle crocheted baby beds that were a popular project when she was young. I didn’t have a bleach bottle but I made this little sleep sack for my daughter’s dolly. It cradles her 5 1/2″ (14 cm) doll perfectly!

Crochet Pattern: Business Card Holder

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on February 1st, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I find myself traveling to business fairs and expos quite frequently throughout the year. I’ve been looking for a business card holder to hold my cards and one to hold the cards I pick up from fellow business people. My problem in the past has been when I get a card from someone I slide it in my purse and it gets mixed in with my own business cards. When someone asks for my card I’m embarrassed as I fumble through twenty from other people. So, I decided to make my own holder, one for me and one in a contrasting color for those cards I acquire.

Crochet Pattern: Prospector’s Change Purse

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on January 13th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 13 Comments
My daughter and I both love purses. It seems from dawn to dark my little lady has some kind of handmade purse on with all her goodies inside. So, she keeps me busy repairing and making her a new purse just about once a month. We have lots of fun designing them together and she is quite honest about how she thinks they should look. So, this week’s pattern is inspired by the leather pouches prospectors stored their gold in. So our little pennies might not be gold, but it’s fun for little ones to pretend. This purse can also be modified to look like a teddy bear.

Fall to me is beautiful leaves, the smell of wood smoke, apples fresh from the orchard, pumpkin pie and a handful of candy corn. Growing up I could not wait until the stores started carrying this delicious seasonal treat. So when my mom came to visit this week we made a candy corn pocket, which has a million uses! It’s perfect for holding your cell phone, dollars and small necessities! Children love this project. Make up a few for your favorite little friends and fill them with the real deal: candy corn! Perfect for fall bazaars and harvest festivities too.

This super simple project is the perfect purse to keep in your large bag. If you need a few dollars to run in the store, throw on this little crossbody beauty and you’ll have what you need without a backache from carrying a large purse for those quick errands. They also work great for simple gifts and can be stashed away for the holidays. My daughter especially enjoys keeping a few of these little purses handy for her dolls and play money. Whenever we go to town, she has to bring her own pocket purse and be just like mommy!
