We’re Getting Ready for #ILYD2015!!

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 2 Comments

Before we begin, I want to remind everyone that the third quarter of our Finish in ’15 contest has flown by! Have you been working on your projects? If so, please submit your photos to our contest so that you may entered in the drawing! The prizes are a pattern from Rachel’s Crochet Spot Store or a month of free membership for members, the beautiful green shawl pin by Michelle’s Assortment, and more!

And now on to our #ILYD2015 post!

Did you know that we crafters have our very own holidays? We do, and the fabulous I Love Yarn Day, sponsored by the Craft Yarn Council, is celebrating its fifth birthday this year! Wooo! They have an exciting theme this year and it’s all based on sharing your love of yarn crafting with others – through teaching and sharing on social media.

The Craft Yarn Council states, “Spreading the good feeling people get from yarn and yarn-related crafts is what I Love Yarn Day (ILYD) is all about. And what better way for knitters and crocheters to spread that joy and pass on their love of the crafts than to ‘stitch it forward’ and teach others?” Well, say no more! I think I can get on board with that! In fact, we’ve had three previous posts on Crochet Spot about teaching others to crochet.

Rachel shared 8 Great Tips for Teaching Crochet, Tameko wrote about Teaching a Beginner’s Crochet Class , and I once encouraged our readership to Teach Someone to Crochet.

Taking the sharing a step further, we are encouraged to share our I Love Yarn Day activities on the following social media channels: facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. The hashtags to follow are #StitchItForward and #ILYD2015. Let’s follow each other on these platforms, too! Crochet Spot can be found on facebook and Twitter.

Excitingly, the Craft Yarn Council is hosting a contest on Instagram. The most creative and fun photos representing how to #stitchitforward will win yarn and book prizes. Entrants should use the #ILYD2015 and #stitchitforward hashtags on their photos. The contest is running now through 10/24/15. Check out the rules at the ILYD website. The photo contest categories are really fun – the most people taught in a photo, the youngest person taught, the oldest person taught, the biggest Stitch It Forward failure (oof), and the funniest location for teaching. There is also a I Love Yarn Day video contest on Facebook and YouTube. The most creative video will have the chance to win yarn, accessories, books, and online class subscriptions. Check out the rules here.

As if that were not enough, we are encouraged to have a Yarn Party, and there is an archive of awesome FREE PATTERNS, including toys, cowls, scarves, bracelets, cell phone cozies, pillows, baby blankets, banners, badges, hats, and more all in crochet on the I Love Yarn Day Website!

So what about you, my friends? Are you planning to stitch it forward for I Love Yarn Day? Did you check out those awesome free patterns? Please leave your thoughts, ideas and questions in the comment section below. Don’t forget your social media handles! Let’s connect!!

I just purchased a pattern using my iPad and received a message that by using an iPad I will need to download the app to be able to retrieve this pattern. I went looking for the app and there is no app called “crochet spot” Please let me know what the app is called so I can retrieve my purchase.

Hi Kathy, you can use any app that opens zip files. Do a search for a zip app. If you need more help with it, feel free to email me at [email protected]
I can also email you the pattern instead (without the zip), just let me know if you need me to via email.
