What Type of Crocheter Are You?

By Rachel Choi – 35 Comments

Let’s face it, everyone is different. But the way I see it, there are 3 types of crocheters. The ones who need things done fast, the ones that have patience or the ones that can care less. Which one are you?

The “I Need Instant Gratification” Crocheter

  • Needs projects done fast for instant gratification.
  • Get it done in one sitting or never get it done at all, that’s my motto!
  • Doesn’t have the time or the patience for huge projects.

The “Slow and Steady Wins the Race” Crocheter

  • Has a ton of patience!
  • Loves making blankets and other large items.
  • Can work on a project for months and still not get bored of it.

The “I Can Care Less” Crocheter

  • Can care less if the project is large or small.
  • Makes what the heart desires, no matter how long it takes.
  • Has patience, yet still enjoys the boost a small project gives.

Personally, I’m the “I Can Care Less” crocheter. If there’s something I want to make, I’ll make it no matter how big or small it may be or how long it’ll take me to make it. But of course I can always appreciate the satisfaction small ones give!

I’m the “I need instant gratification” crocheter. I have a 16 month old….so I need to be able to make something in a jiffy!

  2. Hilla says:

Instant gratification type here! Well, actually I make lots of bags, and they are quite long projects because I’m a bit of a perfectionist with the end results.

  3. Mich says:

“I can care less” would probably fit me the best. I’m usually really impatient, but with crocheting, I tend to be the total opposite. I like smaller projects, but mostly cus I’ve never really done a big project, but I’m on my first though 😀

  4. Sarah R. says:

My husband says I’m the “I can care less” type. Sometimes it switches to the “I need instant gratification” type though. I tend to get impatient when a project isn’t working out the way I want it to, so I just want to finish it. lol

I am a combo of “Slow and Steady Wins the Race” and “I Can Care Less”. But I am more in the “I Can Care Less” category, tho not by much. I am currently 2/3 done with my 3rd-in-a-row dc afghan. They are not small lap blankets, but good-size afghans. I did not even start getting bored until this 3rd one, so I think that definitely qualifies me in the “Slow & Steady”, eh? LOL. I am anxious to be done with this afghan, tho, so I can do *whatever* I want …. smaller projects, including doilies. And a tote. And whatever else I just *feel* like doing. You see, these afghans were for my nephew (in England), my sister & my niece (in NY state). So, by the 3rd one, it is something that I just have to get done. Don’t get me wrong; I am still enjoying my crocheting of it!! =-D

  6. Donna says:

If I am up for a challenge then I am “Slow and Steady”. But there are days I just want to crochet to be crocheting and then I will pick something fast and simple.

  7. Carmen says:

I can sometimes be a “I Can Care Less”, but I’m discovering more and more that I need some instant gratification. Maybe that’s why I have half a dozen projects going at once – some are long-term (afghans, sweaters), and then I have quicker projects (afghan squares, doilies, etc)

  8. Sara says:

I think I lean towards ‘I Can Care Less’ myself. I definitely can’t do ANYTHING in one sitting, lol, and I get worn out doing big projects… BUT if I have my heart set on something I’m going to make it regardless!

  9. Melanie says:

Instant gratification here. I’ve got a huge blanket going now, but I only pick it up when I’m too tired to read a pattern. Beanies and stuffed animals are my fav.

  10. Joy says:

    INSTANT!!!

  11. Bananas says:

I can care less, thats my motto. with 2 small children sometimes the smallest and simpliest crochet can take up to 6 months. but don’t worrie I’m almost done with the legs to pin them on. 😉

  12. Melissa says:

I can care less. I keep projects both big and small, so when I feel the need to finish something, there are all the small ones. I make the big ones because I like ’em!

  13. Debbie says:

I can care less, if it is something that I really want to make it doesn’t matter how long it takes to make it. Besides I have a 4 year old granddaughter running around most of the time and she is always wanting to help. So I have to stop and show it what I am doing. So I don’t care how long it takes as long as I get it finished.

  14. Carmel says:

I could care less is my type. 🙂

  15. Norma says:

I crochet for enjoyment and don’t care when I finish. I enjoy the process.

  16. Bethintx1 says:

I’m the The “I Can Care Less” Crocheter. I work on smaller projects while taking breaks from the large ones. I make anything from finger puppets to king-sized afghans; from simple one & two stitch projects to intricate lace. As long as I have fiber & a hook, I’ll be crocheting!

  17. Juli says:

I Think I’m the “I Can Care Less” although lately I have been trying to work on smaller projects. They definitely provide a major boost, though the larger projects I’ve done have been more useful.

  18. Dana says:

I’m a slow and steady and I can care less. I keep a bag packed and ready for Dr’s appts and such but I also have my in the basket project waiting for football games and rainy days! I love to crochet what can I say!

  19. Karen says:

The “I can care less” is ME to a T. I am always working on something with yarn, especially in the evening while watching t.v. Such a relaxing and peaceful thing to do.

I am The “Slow and Steady Wins the Race” Crocheter unless I am running behind for a gift that must be made by a deadline / Then , I have stayed up all night to complete things, usually this happens to me on Christmas Eve!

I have been crocheting since I was 5 years old , and I am happy to say , I never grow tired of doing it either. : – )

  21. I’m a mixed up mess of all three, I think. I’ve made many huge projects, but I also like instant gratification from time to time. If I’m working on something large, and I kind of get tired of it, I put it aside and start something else. When I get tired of that, I go back to the first one….or….I’m almost ashamed to say, I start even another project! I eventually get them all done, though. I love cute, funny potholders or dolls and toys, so they are the perfect thing to do as a break from a long, monotonous project. I will admit that I hate to do something twice, so the second sleeve, or the second side of the front of a cardigan, or the second arm or leg, sometimes don’t get made right away!

    Guess I’m a fickle crocheter….4th category!

  22. Lila says:

I am between a “Slow and Steady” and “I Can Care Less”, unless of course something like a wedding pops up, in which I become an “Instant gratification” crocheter. . . . Cool, I’m all three 😉

  23. Tracie says:

I really like the instant gratification of quick projects, but I also do some slow and steady ones too. I’m working on a ripple blanket with scrap yarn that will probably take a few years (I use the yarn leftover from other projects). I would love to do a sweater, but I can’t wrap my brain around how long it would take to do it. I’m working on a prayer shawl for my church right now that will be done soon and then who knows what is next!?

  24. jessi says:

I am definately the instant gratification type…and I am so jealous of the ‘slow and steadys’

  25. Caitlin says:

Is there a “I have a short attention span” category? I find I need to work on something new or different after working on a project for awhile. I make little animals and scarves/hats. I don’t think I have the attention span for big projects. I find I work on a little animal, then after it only needs to be sewn together or needs a leg or something I move on to another project and then later finish the first one. I like making animals since it is a mix of both crochet and stitching/glueing things together. So it helps with my short attention span by mixing up what I’m doing. Don’t get me wrong, I love crocheting, especially for my friends/family. I just get so anxious to start something else I want to make that I take a break from what I’m working on to work on a new project with new yarns, colours and shapes.

  26. Cindy says:

I am an instant gratification of quick projects, but even some of those get put on a back burner when something new comes along! I like crocheting with different “fibers” like plastic grocery bags and vcr tape. I even grow my own silkworms and make a small amount of silk thread. Contractor nylon string that comes in hot pink, lime green and bright orange is fun too!

  27. Julie says:

Instant gratification all the way baby! I like making small things likes hats, scarves, blanket squares for charity. The biggest thing I’ve made was a prayer shawl that took me about 3 months off and on. I get very little concentrated time to crochet so I like to see results quickly

  28. Margret says:

“I Can Care Less”, describes me … If I want to make it, it does not worry me how long it takes or how difficult it is. I crochet while watching TV and so it does not matter …
Doesn’t mean I don’t do the odd quickie in between!

  29. Carole :) says:

I’m a toss between “Slow n Steady” and “I Can Care Less” ~ my procrastination habit keeps me in the slow-and-steady lane, tho, most of the time. ( It’s what keeps me from being totally LaZy ~ LOL ) This past 2 yrs I’ve gotten pretty addicted to crocheting with thread, and enjoying making doilies and pillow case edgings. I was usually doing more with yarn in past years, crocheting baby items, stuffed toys and the occasional afghan.

  30. Nana says:

I am the “I Can Care Less” type. I’m working on a bunch of small projects right now, and I think Monday or Tuesday, I’ll be starting on my biggest project yet. A Pride Blanket for one of my friends. 😀

  31. nancy says:

I’am “a care less”crocheter! It’s a good way for me to practice patience which i have very little of as i get older.

  32. Megan says:

I’m more of a “start a million different projects and not finish them for a month then remember I was making something and hurry up and finish it as fast as I can” crocheter… I don’t have a very long attention span… Or memory span for that matter lolz

  33. Cathy says:

I am definitely “a care less crocheter” except when I need appliqués for a fabric purse sample. I love those projects which take form easily but require lots of time. Because when I crochet a large project I allow myself to relax. I love to sit in front of the television with my roommates and crochet. I find it absolutely wonderful!!!

  34. Brenda says:

Mostly a care less but I do not like to make Afghans. I just seem to get so bored making them.

  35. danielle says:

100% “i can care less”, i am always looking for something new chalenging, but most of all adorable.
