Where Do You Crochet?

Crocheting can be done just about anywhere! That’s one of the reasons why I love it so much. Crocheting is portable if you place your work in bag or it can be done from the comfort of your own home while you watch TV. Crochet at home, in the car, on a plane, at the beach, the options are limitless.

Most of my crocheting is done right here in front of my computer. Although it may seem weird for some to crochet at the computer, I love being able to type patterns as I’m making them. But if I’m not crocheting something that needs a written pattern, I’ll probably be who knows where! I like the flexibility to take my projects with me so that I can travel as much as I want and always have something to do. Even if I’m just sitting in a waiting room or taking a trip to visit family, my crochet can always come along with me.

I usually crochet on the couch with the TV going in the background and my laptop open, which I use to either talk to people via MSN, write down pattern modifications, or follow the pattern I’m working on since most of the ones I have come from the internet. I sometimes bring my crochet to University and work on it in the morning before my first class if I don’t have something school related to work on. I keep everything related to my current project/projects in a handy zippered beach bag like bag so I can take it anywhere. I can just grab it and go!

I crochet and knit anywhere. Like you, I crochet in front of the computer. Not because I’m writing down patterns but because of the support the desk gives for my arms. I also listen to audio books while working. Which cuts down on the boredom of repeating the same stitch over and over.

Places I have worked: in the car, at kid’s ball games, waiting for them to get out of school, at the beach, doctor/dentist waiting rooms, outside to enjoy the sunshine, while watching tv, and other places I’ve forgotten about. Oh yes. I carry small projects in a small purse-type bag. If I have to stand in line, I drape the handle over my arm and work. Get into some nice conversations that way.

It’s amazing how much you can get done by working on the go.

I crochet during in our schoolroom while the boys are doing individual work. Once they are finished with an assignment, I put the crochet down and have class discussion. I love to crochet in the car on the way to church or out to the city. I have plans to make a bagsket (you can Google it) to store my WIP and hooks.

My favorite place to crochet is in the passenger of my boyfriend’s car as we travel. He drives, I crochet, and it’s a lovely way to travel.

I crochet pretty much about anywhere I can. I crochet at work, pretty much in every room in the house, in the car while waiting in traffic, etc.

I just got back from a train trip from Virginia to Connecticut and crocheted all the way. I made two scarfs and started on a third with the pattern from Rachel. The broom stick lace (athenian scarf). It’s a hard one but I’m determined to finish it. I’d advise not doing that one in a moving vehicle even if its a train as the movements make it even more difficult. The scarf is looking good.

  8. Hello. I crochet every minute of every day. I always have my crochet items with me. I wish I could crochet in my sleep!! Crochet is my happy place. Whatever is going on around me, I use my crochet to cushion me from all the chaos. I love to see a design emerge, using only a hook & yarn. I guess it reminds me of simpler times. I have been crocheting for over 40 years. I was taught by my grandmother, mother & aunt. I am also lucky to have family that keep every little piece of crochet I do for them!!

We are full time RVers & I crochet everywhere! In my ‘navigator seat’ going down the road (while also telling my husband where to go); in front of the computer (watching videos); in front of the TV; by the campfire; by whatever body of water we are at; under the trees; at the doctor or dentist; at a friend’s while visiting…. You name it, I’ve probably crocheted there – even on excursion train trips to places like Mt. Hood!

I crochet or knit while talking on the phone; I put the phone on “speaker” or I use my headset, so I have hands-free capability! Also crochet or knit in doctor or dentist’s offices, while watching sports on TV, or just as a quiet, relaxing before bedtime activity. Very calming!

I crochet everywhere. I carry my projects with me in a draw-string backpack and wear it. It makes it really easy on me to watch and run after my kiddos with out tossing what I’m making and getting it dirty

I crochet just about anywhere and everywhere : in the car while traveling or waiting for my children to get out of school or activities, in front of the t.v. or while listening to my favorite tunes on my MP3, in doctor and dentist waiting rooms. I even managed to crochet while standing in line to vote last November. As the line snaked along many people watched and commented on my “curly Q” scarf that took shape during my 2-hour wait.

Everywhere! When I’m heading out for a day of errands I made a little hobo bag to carry my smaller projects in. This means I crochet while my kids practice, waiting in lines, watching tv and on conference calls.

Mostly on the couch with the tv going for background noise. I’ve brought work with me to dr’s appointments. I think this year, for the holiday’s, I’ll bring whatever small project I’m working on instead of my usual book.

I crochet at school, when we aren’t doing anything. Sometimes people watch while I work though, it’s a little weird, but I usually end up teaching them how to crochet!
