Would Your Dream Job Involve Crochet?

By Rachel Choi – 27 Comments

I love reading the “Quit Your Day Job” posts that Etsy publishes. If you’re not familiar with the “Quit Your Day Job” series, they are written interviews with people who have successfully quit their day job by making a craft related business.

For me and I’m sure for many others, these posts are very inspirational! After all, lots of people would love to be self employed and make a living doing what they love, especially if they already do it as a hobby.

My question for you is, if you could have your dream job what would it be? Would it include crocheting?

    Of course!

I would love it if someone would pay me to crochet. I think that would be my dream job πŸ™‚

    Of course it does! πŸ˜€

My dream job would be doing my etsy store full time! Maybe someday it’ll happen!

  3. Amy says:

Most definitely! I’m kinda working on getting to a point where I can at least make a little money designing crochet patterns or something related to that. I think about it all the time πŸ™‚

If I could find a job where I could happily pour my heart and soul into while being able to support my family, that would be my dream job. Or a job that would provide me enough time to crochet. Which ever comes first. =]

I have my dream job–I’m a librarian at my local library. It’d be even dreamier if I was full time, though πŸ™‚

I’ve only been there a couple of months and I’ve tried to sneak crochet in. When I made a Sherlock Holmes display I thought of crocheting a Deerstalker hat and thought I should be able to work on it at the reference desk. Didn’t try, though. I have a display up for National Crochet Month right now. I’m going to keep my eyes open for little things I can make to dress up displays. I’ve made a bunch of shamrocks but we don’t have any St. Patrick’s Day things going on.

As much as I’d love to be able to crochet at work, I don’t actually think it’s a good idea. It’d make a bad impression on some people and it’s not work related. I do think it’d be fun to have a project to work on when it’s slow and there’s not much else to do. Maybe people would comment and I could find other crocheters or crafters in the area.

Being a librarian’s my dream job too πŸ™‚ I’m not quite there yet though. I just got my Bachelor’s degree and I’ll be starting my Master’s in the Fall. I was working at a library before, unfortunately I’m not there anymore because of a pathological co-worker, but I heard from one of the people who’s still there that the Young Adult Librarian wants to start a crochet class/club at the library hoping that that’ll bring in some people. Maybe you could do that at your library.

bookworm, do you work in LA? in a small industrial town? Cuz I may know that crazy. . . haha. I left a similar position way back due to the same.

  8. Bookworm says:

Nope, I’m in Miami. We got plenty of crazies here πŸ™‚ My crazy seems sane, but she has this pathological need to make others look bad. I guess in an attempt to make herself look better. And unfortunately, she’d been working there for almost 30 years (wonder how many lives she ruined in all that time) and I’d only been there for about a year and a half or so, so her word against mine and she’d been there longer. She took a bit of a special ‘liking’ to me and made it a point to really screw up my permanent record, I won’t go into too much detail but needless to say the accusations she made were quite serious. *sigh* I’m just hoping that when I get through my Master’s and it’s time for me to find a full-time position that she won’t have ruined my chances at a good job.

Oh yes my dream job would involve crochet and possibly even sewing. I’m a disabled woman who stays at home so I don’t know how well I would do, but having an Etsy store or something along those lines would be great to supplement my disability.

I have my dream job as well. I teach chemistry to college students. I love to crochet, but I’m pretty sure my hands would cramp if I did it all day, every day. If for some reason I couldn’t teach chemistry then teaching crochet would be fun. I love trying to figure out how people learn.

I would love to have crochet be my career! Ultimately, my dream includes a tea/book/yarn shop :D. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

  16. Oh yeah! I am already living that life. I am going to school part time to become a Medical Administrating Assistant, but for some pocket cash I crochet as well. I have a site dedicated to my craft where I have some examples of the things I can make. I also made and typed my first pattern for Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas! Not too shabby, and sometimes it is slow work but man does it pick up!

My dream job would definitely involve crocheting! I would love to be a handbag and accessories designer…I LOVE sewing and crocheting πŸ™‚

I have been blessed with taking orders for my afghans. It’s not a lot of money, but it comes in handy and just at the right time. I made one for a church member andher daughter and they haves been getting orders for more. Looks like I’ll be afghaning all summer!

I crochet every spare minute as I make shoes. I sell them on trademe – a NZ site similair to eBay.
It keeps me very busy and I would love to be able to give up work and do this fulltime.

My dream job is to be an author, I love to write! Sometimes I crochet things like pencil grips and cases using my own patterns and sell them to kids at my school, it’s a great way to make a few bucks!

Dream job…open a yarn shop that specializes in crochet instead of knitting (but knitters would be welcome). I am so tired of yarn shops that look down their nose at “happy hookers”. Sandy

I would love to make enough money from my You Tube tutorials to make a living…I also want to write a couple of pattern books.

  23. JMArntzen says:

I would LOVE to crochet all day every day. I actually would like to be able to help another designer make their items to sell. I am fast and accurate but I donÒ€ℒt really want to own my own business. If I can’t do that from home, I would like to own/operate a shop with Yarn, Books and Dogs; my three favorite things in the world. Of course, the shop would be geared more towards crochet then knit. It is about time someone made a shop for us.

If any of you would like some help making your projects, we should talk.

    Hey Jess,

I see this was written a long time ago, but if you’re still interested in hooking up with someone, let me know! I’m just starting my business, but have been crocheting since I was 9 years old (I’m 47). Hope to hear from you. Email [email protected].

    Thanks!

Of coarse I would love to crochet for a living, who wouldn’t. I’ve been crocheting since 1983, and it’s becoming more of a passion as the years go on. You can see my work on Fb Novella Bobo. Thanks

My dream job? Well, as a child, I dreamed of being a writer but because I used to be shy, I didn’t pursue writing or the Literary Arts or any course related to that as a career. Instead I became a nurse. 28 years of being a nurse and 21 years as wife and mother have brought me back to crocheting, a hobby I had in my teens. I taught my two daughters how to crochet when they were in grade school but the younger one prospered in the craft. Now in her last year in college as a Business Administration student, she would like to put up her own business and guess what—crochet is among the top of her list of prospective fields to be explored! Any tips on how to put up a crochet business?

YES! Crocheting for a living would be AWESOME!
