Here is a coaster pattern that is great for beginners! Instead of a basic square crocheted in rows, this coaster gives you practice crocheting in the round. When crocheted in the round, it allows you to make concentric squares that are noticeable when changing yarn colors! Crochet a bunch of these coasters to create an entire set.

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 4″ (10 cm) square

Materials: Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 20 yards per coaster) Crochet Hook H (5.00 mm)

Gauge:
Rounds 1 – 2 in pattern create a 2 1/4″ wide square.

Crochet Pattern: Coaster
Note: change colors as often as desired.
Round 1: ch 3, 12 dc in third ch from hook, sl st in first dc: 12 dc
Round 2: ch 2, (4 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) around, sl st in first dc: 24 dc
Round 3: ch 2, dc in first 2 dc, (4 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc) 3 times, 4 dc in next dc, dc in last 3 dc, sl st in first dc: 36 dc
Round 4: ch 2, dc in first 4 dc, (4 dc in next dc, dc in next 8 dc) 3 times, 4 dc in next dc, dc in last 4 dc, sl st in first dc: 48 dc
Finish off.
