Hairpin Crochet Lace for Summer

Posted in Fun Ramblings on July 21st, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 3 Comments

Man, it is hot up here in the northern hemisphere! Summer is truly upon us and I’ve seen some lacy clothing come out of storage and have a day in the sun. Summer is perfect for crochet and it seems that each year, every season, I see more and more crochet in stores, online, and on the runway. Hairpin lace is a classic crochet technique that people may not know is crochet. It was originally crocheted using a lady’s hairpin as a loom. As I researched for this essay, I became fascinated with the history of hairpin lace.

Summer Crochet Food Round-Up

Posted in Fun Ramblings on July 12th, 2014 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 1 Comment

The kids are out of school and it’s undeniably summer up here in the northern hemisphere! That means it’s time for some favorite summer activities like gardening, camping, and cooking out! Summer is so much fun that sometimes we let crochet fall to the wayside because we’re busy with different things to do. However, we here at Crochet Spot are fully in favor of summer crochet, and Rachel’s even got some tasty patterns to keep your hook working whether it is on the front porch while sipping a sweet tea, by the pool in the summer sun, or even relaxing in the air-conditioned comfort of your living room.

The neat thing is that a lot of them correspond to some favorite summer pastimes! And they’re also doubly delicious because (yum) they’re food!! Nom nom nom!

As the final few weeks of summer wind down we are enjoying the last of our homegrown watermelons. Crochet Pattern: Strawberry

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 26th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit!

Crochet Pattern: Pinwheel

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 12th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 14 Comments
Now that we have some breezy warm afternoons upon us I’m sure you’ve been finding pinwheels at the local dollar shops. Kids can’t resist them. Oftentimes we see them for party decor or even replicated with fabric for quilt blocks. This week I decided to try crocheting a pinwheel and this pattern is what resulted. You can use this project to spruce up throw pillows and other home accessories. Make it out of finer yarn and it makes great appliques, pins, or hair accessories. I used two colors for this pattern but you can easily make each blade out of a different color.

Crochet Pattern: Watermelon Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on April 19th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
One thing my garden can’t be without is several hills of watermelon. My family can’t resist it’s mouthwatering sweetness; it’s my daughter’s favorite summer treat! So, I created this watermelon applique to embelish her summer dresses. I’m also going to sew it on one of her white t-shirts to add a touch of pizzaz! Why pay lots of money for something similar at a boutique when you can make it yourself for little to nothing! This applique would also be great sewn onto picnic napkins to catch some of the juicy sweetness of summer’s favorite fruit.
