|Summer’s almost gone, so it’s time to think about keeping warm. What better place to start than right at the top? The flaps on this hat will keep your ears as toasty as your head while you enjoy the cooler weather. Wear this while you admire the changing colors of the leaves–or jump in them!
This is a no-sew project, so finishing should be a cool fall breeze.
Hat: 20″ (50.8 cm) circumference
Earflaps: 3″ (7.5 cm) wide at the top, 3.5″ (9 cm) long
Medium Weight Yarn (175 yards)
Crochet Hook H (5.0 mm)
Rounds 1 – 2 in pattern = 2″ (5 cm) in diameter

Crochet Pattern: Earflap Cap
Round 1: Make an adjustable ring, ch 3, 8 dc into ring, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 8 dc
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 16 dc
Round 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 32 dc
Round 4: Ch 3, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) around, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 48 dc
Rounds 5-14: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 48 dc
First Ear Flap:
Attach yarn to 16th dc on last round on hat.
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in same dc, dc in next 7 dc, turn: 8 dc
Row 2 – 3: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn: 8 dc
Row 4: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc2tog, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog, dc in last dc, turn: 6 dc
Row 5: Ch 3, dc in first 2 dc, dc2tog, dc in last 2 dc, turn: 5 dc
Row 6: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc3tog, dc in last dc: 3 dc
Second Ear Flap:
Attach yarn to 40th dc on last round on hat. Then repeat row 1 – 6 of first ear flap.
