Crochet Pattern: Fast Scarf with Pockets

Scarfs can do more than just keep your neck warm, they can keep your hands warm too! Or you can have a scarf with “secret” pockets by wearing the scarf with the pockets not showing. The simple idea is to create a scarf that is extra long so that the ends can be folded up to create pockets for your hands. This can be done with any type of yarn and just about any scarf style. In this crochet pattern, I’ll be using super bulky weight yarn and a large hook for a fast and easy project.

Skill Level: beginner crochet skill level

Finished Size: 4 1/2″ (11.5 cm) wide, 64″ (163 cm) long
Note: scarf can be made into any size you desire

Materials:
Super Bulky Weight Yarn
150 yards of main color
Crochet Hook N (10.00 mm)
Yarn needle
super bulky

Gauge: not really important, be sure to measure the scarf to create the size you desire.

Crochet Pattern: Scarf
Start by chaining 8 or as chain that is as wide as you want your scarf
Row 1: ch 2, dc in third ch from hook and in each ch across: 8 dc
Row 2: ch 2, turn, dc in each dc across: 8 dc

Repeat row 2, seventy five times or until scarf is as long as you desire. Be sure to make it long enough to fold ends up to create the pockets.

Finishing
Fold approximately 6 rows of each end of the scarf over to create the pockets. Sew the sides of both pockets shut with a yarn needle. Optionally you may line your pockets or add buttons or zippers.

Love this – so cute! the little pocket made me think – have you ever crocheted any iPod or cell phone cozies? I never have but the way you created these pockets may be a good way to do it for a beginner like myself!

    Hey Sarah,
Here is my: cell phone cozy crochet pattern
It’s done in the round so that you don’t have to sew, but if wanted to make it similar to the scarf pockets, you can always make a little rectangle and fold it up and sew that

I just wanted to say thank you very much for the free scarf with pockets pattern. I’m new to crocheting and I saw this pattern for knitting but I couldn’t figure out how to crochet it and I am very excited that I am able to now. Thank you!

Thanks for the pattern. I followed the instructions to a T and came out with a narrow strip just the right size for my five year old grandson. He loves the little pockets and the fact that his older brothers want one also.

I will widen the pattern for them.
