Crochet Pattern: Snowflake Mug Cozy

The cool days are coming, or already here for some, which means that hot tea in the morning is even more necessary than before, or so we tea drinkers would have you believe. Mug cozies are the funnest way to accessorize your mug because you can design them any way you might choose. There are a handful of ways to make them, but all are very simple and enjoyable. Here is one using some simple stitches and some wintry embellishments! The pattern is made to fit an average size mug, but squeeze it over a taller mug and you might like it just as well. Skill Level:

Finished Size: Fits mug measurements of 10 3/8” circumference and 3 3/4” tall

Materials:
Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 40 yards of color A, 2 yards of color B, and a small amount of color C)
Crochet Hook G (4.00 mm)
Yarn needle

crochet yarn size 4

Gauge:
7 sc = 2″
7 rows = 2″
Gauge Swatch: 2″w x 2″h (5 cm x 5 cm) ch 8.
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 7 sc
Row 2 – 7: ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across: 7 sc
Finish off.

Crochet Pattern: Snowflake Mug Cozy
Round 1: with color A, ch 34, sl st to first ch to form ring, being careful not to twist ch, ch 1, sc in each ch around, sl st in first sc: 34 sc

Round 2: skip first sc, (sl st, ch 1, sc) in next sc, sc in each sc around, leaving last sc unworked: 32 sc

Round 3 – 12: ch 1, turn, sc in next 32 sc: 32 sc

Round 13: ch 1, turn, sc in next 32 sc, ch 1, sl st in first sc to join: 32 sc

Round 14: ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc: 33 sc
Finish off.

Embellishment

With yarn needle and color B, stitch along bottom and top of cozy. With color C, stitch a snowflake pattern using the diagram as reference.
