Crochet Pattern: Pumpkin Pin

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 18th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 1 Comment
Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons. I love the smell of woodsmoke in the air. Pumpkins and squash in every shade are being harvested and used for decorations. Oftentimes my squash collection finds its way to my oven. Roasted squash, stir-fried pumpkin, cookies and pies all make my dinner table look absolutely mouthwatering. So, when I was thinking up a pattern for this week, this little pumpkin pin found its way off my hook. I added eyes and a smile similar to the happy veggie figurines I’ve seen in Japantown.

Crochet Pattern: Child’s Cat Ear Headband

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 10th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 5 Comments
The other day, while my daughter and I were taking a walk, a little black kitten and his tabby sibling peeked out from among a stack of haybales. While the tabby cat is only interested in getting fed the black kitten we’ve named Miette has become quite loveable. My daughter is so attached to her new little friend. I crocheted this cat ear headband for her to wear while getting her fall photo taken with her new found feline friend. It seems like cat lovers are often crochet lovers, so I wanted to share this pattern with you too. It can be crocheted in a matter of minutes!

I love crocheting play food. As a child my mom crocheted me an assortment of goodies to add to my kitchen collection. I will never forget her handmade surprises she’d whip up for me during my nap times. I suppose these early memories are what keeps me coming back to patterns like this. Today I have a zero-calorie ice cream sandwich pattern for you to indulge in. This little project can be made in a matter of minutes and it is great to keep in your toy stash for when little ones come to visit. Don’t forget about the holidays! A basket of play food makes a great gift.

Crochet Pattern: Eggplant Play Food

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on September 15th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
Our produce is finally starting to slow down in our massive gardens. Looking back, one of our most prolific crops was eggplant! It is one of my husband’s favorite vegetables. It takes a bit of creativity to come up with new recipes to use up our bountiful harvest. Thankfully he never seems to tire of the cooking experiments! This week, since I have so much inspiration around me, I decided to create this eggplant play food pattern just for the fun of it! It is a great scrap saver project. If you choose to use wool yarn you could even felt the eggplant. Have fun!

It is amazing how easy it is to freshen up your home decor for the new season. It doesn’t require a lot of money either. If you have some scrap yarn you can easily crochet this daisy chain trim which can be sewn onto pillows, curtain hems and more! By changing the color of the flowers you can easily update the trim for each passing season. You could also make this trim with fingering yarn which would make a delicate embellishment for nightgowns, baby clothes and fine linens. This pattern is quite addictive and fast to whip up. It is a great project to keep in your crochet arsenal!

As the final few weeks of summer wind down we are enjoying the last of our homegrown watermelons. Crochet Pattern: Sunflower Applique

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on August 15th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 3 Comments
I think sunflowers are one of the most beautiful flowers in the garden. Their smiling faces, which follow the movement of the sun, remind me to always look for the bright side of every circumstance and to turn my back on dark days. I find crochet easily as therapeutic as enjoying a beautiful flower garden. So, I decided to combine the two this week. This project can be whipped up in no time. I plan on making several sunflowers, joining them at the petals, and creating a lacy scarf. Another use for this easy pattern is coasters!
