2012 New Year’s Crochet Resolutions

By Rachel Choi – 24 Comments
Who’s ready for 2012? Have you made any resolutions yet? If you haven’t it’s not too late to jot them down. The start of the new year is a great time to set some goals for your everyday life and for your crochet life. If you’ve been slacking on your crochet projects, maybe you can make a resolution to spend a few minutes each night to work on your projects. Or if you’re one of those folks who loves to start too many projects, make a resolution to only have 2 or 3 going at a time.

Whatever you’d like to work on this year, feel free to share it with everyone in the comments section below! This way we can cheer each other on. So, what are your crochet resolutions??

I’m gonna try and crochet more! I have dance 4 times a week, so I don’t have much time to crochet any more, although I seem to have time to search the Internet and play Angry Birds for countless hours on my iPod Touch.

    HAPPY 2012!!!!!!!

I will design my own doily, my first ever. I started this week. I will not get discouraged by all the frogging I have to do. I will use up my stash. I will not buy any more thread this year unless someone asks me to make them something in a color I do not already have.

My crochet resolutions for the New Year are:
    1. crochet an afgan – I could never commit to a large project
    2. become a Certified Crochet Instructor – just because
    3. start writing down patterns – becuse it saves time if I want to make more items with the same pattern
    4. crochet, crochet, and then crochet some more

    Happy New Year everybody!

  7. Enjoli says:

I plan to learn a few styles in crochet including the Tunisian crochet method.

I will also try to work on this blanket I started back in 2006 (I am embarrassed to type that, lol) in hopes of finally finishing it.

To make beanie hats for my family.

Basically, to just get as good at crochet as I can get and enjoy it in the process.

  8. gatyamgal says:

I plan on experimenting with Knooking. It is similar to Tunisian crochet but the result is actual knitting stitches. Google it! I am also going to take the time and crochet several of the patterns that Rachel has shared with us over the years. Thanks, Rachel for providing us with some very interesting projects. I will be sharing pictures as I finish each one. Finish…. That’s another thing I see others are resolving to do. Here’s to everyone that our resolutions come true!

  9. Melissa says:

    1) Move beyond making scarves, and try mittens and socks.

    2) Try to NOT buy yarn without having a pattern in mind (let’s see how long that lasts…)

    3) Stop being a big baby about weaving in ends – just think how many finished items I’d have if I spent 5 minutes doing this for each project!

    My 2012 Crochet Resolutions are:

    1. Design more of my own patterns.
    2. Crochet my first afghan.
    3. Buy a new crochet needle(s) and a new J size hook because I lost them both in 2011.

I have been having an ‘ Art Night’ at my house on Thursday evening. Started it November 2011. Some make jewerly, some paint, some what ever they feel. I crochet and have taught others how to crochet. It has been a lot of fun. Some have came to rekindel their love for crocheting. I love ‘Art Night’ and hope to keep it going.

  12. Jumasto says:

Although I have arthritis in my thumbs, I want to make wraps as my spring/summer sweaters this year to go with the new outfits I am sewing for myself. I’ve already started the first one, and I hope to make this resolution come true.
Happy 2012 to one and all!

  13. Lisa says:

My resolution – one of them, anyway – is to learn to follow crochet abbreviations so I can make some different projects. I wish the patterns were written out in regular words so I can make better sense of them. I’d like to crochet in the round better, and learn to make other garments besides scarves and hats.

  15. Teresa says:

    1. To finish every single crochet project I started before taking on a new one.
    2. To crochet hats for the homeless and lapghans and prayer shawls and chemo caps for the hospitalized and the lonely.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and HAPPY CROCHETING
    ….Teresa

  16. Tameko says:

@Teresa, I think that is so cool about doing chemo caps for the hospitalized and the lonely. I crochet prayer shawls from time to time as well. I do hope to do more of those in 2012. Happy New Year.

  17. Judi Gums says:

Heck, my problem is to put down the crochet hook and accomplish something else accomplished. I have to many things I want to work on lately and can’t seem to get them all done.

    Happy New Year to all.

  18. Akil says:

I want to increase my craft by learning new stitches, actually following through on more of the crochet tutorial some of the you have so graciously shared and quit being scared of making actual garments.

  19. Lane† says:

gatyamgal, thanks for the knooking idea! I’ve never heard of it so I googled it. Can’t wait to start knooking!!!

  20. Collette says:

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! These resolutions are all admirable, but the only resolution that I really keep is: “I resolve to NOT make any resolutions!” I can always keep that one! I was finishing up 5 tote bags at midnight Christmas Eve–and I had begun these early in January! I teach a crochet class at our local Senior Center, and we make hats for chemo patients, children and neuro-surgery patients at 4 different hospitals, and afghans for Veterans hospitals all year long, so you see–life just gets in the way of any resolutions! But it’s all fun, anyway!

  21. Angie says:

I am planning on learning how to knit socks…..but, at the moment it dpns still scare the heck out of me. LOL! I made a hat w/ them once and that was enough but, I think I really want to learn socks.

I won’t wait till the last minute to start Christmas presents either (socks, if I learn).

I will TRY to finish all my UFO’s and work on only a couple of projects at a time. 🙂

    Happy 2012 everyone!

  22. claire griffiths says:

    This is for Angie,
Try knitting the socks with two circular needles. I knit hats with circular needles, but I knit mittens with double points but I was told how to with circulars and I might try it again.
As for Crocheting in 2012, I plan on doing more projects and maybe try more advanced ones.
