Crochet Pattern: Expanding Diamond Motif

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on July 7th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 8 Comments
Recently I have written a couple of posts on making expandable geometric motifs, the Expanding Pentagon Motif, and the Expanding Geometric Motif Crochet Tutorial, where each shape follows a similar design. Unfortunately, not all shapes can be created so simply. My method is based on the amount of identical sides a shape has. But in the case of a diamond, for example, there are the same number of sides as a square but all sides are not identical. Expanding Diamond Motif

After reading a comment by a reader requesting help while using my tutorial to make a rhombus, or diamond, I set about making the necessary changes. So here is a pattern in the same expanding design but for a more unique shape!

Crochet Pattern: Arctic Edge Brimmed Beret

For a great style, and necessary warmth for those cold days, this beret is sure to come in handy! The brim is made onto the beret using double strands and simple crochet stitches, while the band and button add the finishing touch.
Being typically the beret-only type of girl, this brimmed design was a new twist for me. I really enjoyed designing it and I hope you will have as much fun making it!

Crochet Pattern: The Polly Belt

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 26th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 3 Comments
After watching an episode of Mission: Impossibe (the 60’s TV series) I saw a lovely lemon yellow belt paired with a navy blue suit and matching yellow pumps. My fashion interest was piqued. I set about making a similar belt pattern, complete with lemon yellow yarn. And now you can too!
Belts are all the rage these days because they highlight nearly any outfit. The best thing about them though is that they are incredibly simple to make. All you need is some yarn, a crochet hook, and a belt buckle, and you can whip one of these up in no time!

Expanding Geometric Motif Crochet Tutorial

Posted in Tutorials and Help on June 17th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 5 Comments

I’ve designed quite a few patterns using granny squares because I like how simple and easy they are to make. It’s easy to create something remarkable by using granny squares as a base. But it’s not the only easy motif to choose from.

After crocheting the Expanding Pentagon Motif a few weeks back, we received requests for the same design but in different shapes. So today I’m going to give you a tutorial explaining how to make the motif in any geometric shape you desire.

Little crocheted pouches are unique and great for carrying valuables or just little things that are easily lost. This pouch is worked in the round and has a tight crocheted bottom to prevent loss of whatever you might wish to carry in it, making it great for travel. Complete with a picot edging and twisted cord for the drawstring, this pouch has plenty of room for quite a few little things. Make them for yourself and all your family and friends and see just what precious things they decide to store in their pouches. Drawstring Pouch

Crochet Pattern: Cliffside Infinity Scarf

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on May 26th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 2 Comments
As with most clothing accessories, infinity scarves can differ in length and width as well as thickness and weight, making them available for wearing year round. In the summertime a lightweight scarf is preferable while the winter begs a more fibrous and heavy stitch. This scarf is a longer version giving you the ability to wrap it three times or just twice for a more draped look. With a thick stitch texture, your neck won’t lack for warmth. A strap holds the layers together for a stylish twist. Don’t you think the button adds just the right touch? crochet cliffside infinity scarf

Crochet Pattern: Patriotic Flag

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on May 20th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 3 Comments
To those of us who live in the United States of America, the three colors that make up our flag is the essence of patriotism. When Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag, little did she know the effect it would have on her growing country. And yet it’s hard not to take it all for granted. During these summer patriotic holidays let’s try to keep in mind how blessed we are to be Americans! Patriotic Flag

Crochet Pattern: Mrs. Muir Afghan

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on May 15th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 25 Comments
In the 1947 movie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, there are two granny style afghans belonging to Mrs. Muir that are very noticeable. One is a granny motif afghan while the other looks like this one here. I loved the second one so much I decided to redesign it for Crochet Spot. This afghan is a perfect square that you can adjust to make as large or small as you desire. There’s no turning involved with this pattern so the right side of the stitches will all appear on one side. Have fun mixing and matching colors to make this granny square inspired afghan your own! crochet granny square afghan
