Crochet Pattern: Owl Hat (5 Sizes)

By Rachel Choi – 7 Comments
There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! This cute owl hat can be crocheted for anyone in the family, from babies to adults! The main hat is designed with ear flaps to keep your ears nice and warm, and to add to the owl’s overall shape. Braided tie strings are used at the ends of the ear flaps, which you can make as long or short as you desire. The owl’s eyes, nose, and ears are then sewn onto the hat. Feel free to choose your favorite 2 colors to crochet this owl hat!

Love it! I have been making them with my own design. I haven’t had a pattern. I used your basic beanie pattern along with my techniques. They are so much fun to create! Happy crocheting!

So cute! The moment I saw it I knew I had to make one for my son. He looks adorable in it. Very easy and pretty quick to make.

I’m excited about starting this hat for my grandkids! One question please. Does the 3 chains at the begining of the row count as a double crochet?

    Thank you!

Hi Carmen, no, the ch 3 doesn’t count as a double crochet. It would only counts as a stitch if it was noted in the pattern. Have fun crocheting!

Regarding the owl ears, are the ears supposed to be round? And how are they supposed to be positioned on the hat? Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Carmen, the ears have a point at the end, but it isn’t a super sharp point. It is a little rounded. You can sew the ears on using the photo as a guide. They’re sewn on right above the blue portion on the hat. It doesn’t have to be exact. Have fun with it!
