Do You Crochet Everyday?

Do you know the saying, “an apple a day, keeps the doctors away”? Well I think crocheting has the same effect (or maybe even better). I crochet everyday. It does not matter how long. Sometimes it’s just for 10 minutes other times it’s for a couple hours. I am a busy working woman, so I can not always spend the whole day crocheting. But I do crochet religiously everyday.

You see, crocheting for me is like meditating. It relaxes my body, but most importantly my mind. After a full day of running around at work and carpooling kids, it’s important to take time to simply relax. Even if you’re not a mother chasing around kids or a crazy career woman, we all have days that are hectic. We all need time for ourselves.

I propose if you do not crochet everyday, that you start right now! No more excuses, no more hectic days without relaxing crochet time. I’m not saying that you should spend your entire night crocheting, I understand we all have other things to do. But be sure to take a few minutes minimum to relax and enjoy yourself. I’m sure you deserve it!

Do you find crocheting relaxing? Do you crochet everyday? If not, what’s stopping you?

May is a mom to two hectic children who she unconditionally adores. When she’s not chauffeuring them around or busy at her day job, she loves crocheting. May’s favorite relaxing things to crochet are scarves, blanket squares, and small toys.

I crochet everyday. It is very relaxing and I find that when I have something stressful going on, it calms me down. No matter where I go, I always have a project with me. I take projects to work every single day.

I crochet every day. I have an Etsy shop so I need to crochet every day to keep up with that, but also it is very relaxing to me. I crochet while watching TV after the kids go to bed. Doing that also keeps me from snacking when watching TV as my hands are already busy!

I crochet every day. I do lots of crafts and might do them early evening or weekends, but come evening, I’m on the sofa with my husband, watching TV with crochet in hand.

I totally crochet every day! I’m w/ Wendy…on the sofa w/ my hubby, watching TV crocheting away. I’m addicted! 🙂

I crochet probably 5 days a week, although when I’m super-excited about the project I’m working on, that jumps to 7 days a week! And when I miss a day crocheting, I get cranky — especially if I didn’t crochet because I was too busy running errands and doing housework after work, because crocheting is my “decompress & wind down” antidote to stress!

  10. deb says:

Oh yea, I to crochet everyday. Love it, so relaxing, lol, sometimes to relaxing… as I could probably sit and crochet all day if I would let myself.

I usually crochet everyday, but sometimes I skip a day because of chores, or one of my friends comes over, or because I found a great book to read. I have to be doing something with my fingers. I like to crochet while me and my family watch Star Trek when it comes on at night. If my friends were in to crochet I would totally make a crochet group. It would be so much fun to just sit, crochet, and talk.

yes, i crochet every single day.. can’t imagine a day without crochet even a single stitch..hahaha but i crochet at night on weekdays because i am a working woman. when i was working on a project like finishing order, i will stay late becoz the passion to finish the order. when i was working sometimes my mind was flying home coz always remember my crochet.

i use a shoe box to put my crochet yarns when i travel so it easy for me to bring that box everywhere n i even crochet in a car while my husband was driving so that i dont sleep n at the same time i can accompany my husband. I will bring that crochet box everywhere i go if have a long journey n i will have something to do if i get boring 😉

Yes! I crochet everyday even if only for a few minutes. I’m just learning so it’s fun to get practice in. It also allows me to “escape” for a bit since I still have to really concentrate!

  14. I am a designer so I crochet everyday or try to, and often experiment beacuse much of what I do involves tapestry or pictorial crochet. Sometimes I do sample tests and tweek and rework designs. I am super fast but usually working on several projects simultaneously, especially when working with rougher fibers like cords and nylon. I’ll switch back and forth to a projects with softer yarns.

I usually crochet everyday and I certainly know what you mean, when my grandmother was in the hospital for 3 weeks crochet was my rock, even when I was up til 3 in the morning trying to get dishes and laundry done I would take a few minuetes to crochet and it just helped me to relax and forget everything for a little bit.

I am new to crochet, taught myself from watching tutorials on YouTube. Only about 2 months. I crochet every day, usually at night while my husband is watching TV. I have made two slouchy hats, one hat I designed myself, a baby sweater and hat and booties, and numerous scarfs. I just love it.

I try to do something crafty everyday, whether it be crochet, cross-stitch, knitting or sewing. I tend to go through phases, where I favor one craft. Right now, it’s crochet 🙂

  18. Peggy says:

I crochet most every day, now that I’m retired. When I was working, I’d go through periods where I’d crochet if I was coming home directly from work or had a project underway (one summer I made a huge granny afghan for a wedding coming up that September — I created the pattern, used my scraps and other colors I added, and was assembling it the day of the wedding — my cat sitting on it proved to me it was a success).

I enjoy taking crochet on vacation, particularly items like granny squares that don’t require heavy packing.

Yes, I do crochet everyday! I crochet as soon as I get in bed at night. My husband doesn’t mind one bit either! This is where I usually work on my afghans. Smaller things in the car, larger in bed and all projects throughout the day! I do a ton of crafting and sewing, and I tend to always be moving and on the go!.

Crocheting is something I can do when I’m not feeling well. I developed severe Fibromyalgia almost 10 years ago and with this very painful syndrome, my spinal injuries and arthritis, crocheting makes me feel better. When it hurts to move your entire body, being able to still feel productive is an enormous boost, and I love to do it! I’m not as fast as I use to be because of the arthritis, but at 59, I’m way too young to just sit around. Crocheting helps me stay active and it’s something I love to do! What could be better! And I’m teaching myself to knit!

    Blessings, Donna

I crochet almost every day. I will put it aside to to activities with my family and friends. Though I generally have something with me to work on even then if the opportunity arises.

In the evenings, I crochet while I’m watching tv with my hubby. I can’t just sit and watch a movie or tv. If I’m not crocheting I at least have a book for the commercials.

After a stressful day at my job, this winds me down.

My mom passed away Jan. 2011. Before that my crocheting was just hit and miss. However, since she died, I have found that crocheting is the only thing that takes my mind off of my grief. Therefore, I now crochet for several hours each night…until I’m cross-eyed…and not only have 5 projects in the works but have a mind full of ideas. I have just started a Christmas afghan that uses a pattern and several color changes which is all new to me. By crocheting every day, I have seen my skill improve and my eagerness to try new stitches and challenges has gone way up. My grandmother taught me basic crochet many, many years ago when I was about 10 or 11. She died when I was 14 and I will be forever grateful that she passed on some of her skill. She was particularly into edgings and I think some tatting. Little did I know that her teachings would help me get through the loss of my own mother years later.

Over two years ago I found an amazing charity – Knit-a-Square – and, with the odd exception for sickness and children, I’ve been crocheting daily ever since! For me, a day without crochet is a day without sunshine. I’ve been crocheting for over 30 years, making gifts of blankets, sweaters and toys. Now I find it not only relaxing, but also fulfilling, knowing that I’m helping AIDS orphans feel warm and loved. Check out http://www.knit-a-square.com if you would like to help! :o)

Yes working on one thing or another. Find it calms me from the days going and doings. I mostly crochet in the evening while watching t.v. unless the weather is to bad to go out, then I may crochet off and on all day depending what I’m making. I make for family mostly. Since the end of Oct. last year , I have made: 12 scarfs, 4 purses, 4pr. fingerless gloves., 15 hair scrunchies, 12 headbands. 1 baby blanket, 5 lg. afghans and just finished a double spread for my cousin last week. Have started on an Autum afghan now. Have to keep the fingers busy. lol

I crochet every evening. It is relaxing for me after a day @ work. My mama would say “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”. Her hands stayed busy and so do mine.

My husband knows that it has been a hard stressful day when I walk through the door from work, sit in my chair and begin crocheting. I keep one of Rachel’s easy patterns handy for those days and a bigger project for every day.

If I should miss the occasional day of crocheting I don’t miss a second one. It keeps me centered and calm. After months of family problems and my BP going sky high I rely on my time crocheting to keep me grounded. It can both allow time to think things out and also push problems out of our minds, depending on the day.

Yes I crochet everyday or I get the bends. lol . actually it is both physical and mental therapy for me, I have MS so I am house/chair bound most of day. I do charity crochet for preemies and babies. Also I make most of my gifts, love to make shawls too. I’ve taught a few people including my mom how to crochet and all of us find it both relaxing and fun. sometimes a challeng, when working a new pattern.

Is there a CA? I.E.-Crocheters Anonymous! Oh my yes do I ever crochet every day, all day and into the night! Since being unemployed, this is my sole source of income and being here in New Mexico, I find the market quite open for me. And I LOVE IT!!!
P.S.- I hope there is no cure!!

  35. René says:

The amount of crochet I do has varied a lot over the years, and increases when I have a specific project in the works for someone else. I have had ladies comment to me several times over the years, “I just don’t have the patience for that!” On the contrary I consider crochet to be my sanity, especially when waiting somewhere. There is always another dish to wash, sock to pick up from the floor, call to answer, report to write. When I crochet a baby blanket, though, I know it will be an heirloom!

I crochet almost every day and I love it. I have three children 10- 15 years old so sometime I don;t get to but I carry it everywhere and crochet at swim team, in the car, at soccer games at track meets, I love that it is so portable.

I do crochet every day. I found it to be my saving grace when my husband was in the hospital and I had to sit with him every day. Like some people pace back and forth, I crochet. I have 3 afghans now that I call my hospital crochet. One will be for my husband, another for a wedding gift and I may just keep the 3rd for myself. I take a project with me everywhere. I have now starting working with plarn (plastic bag yarn). I made a rug that I was going to put on my deck, but it turned out so nice, I have it in the LR. You wouldn’t believe how soft it is to walk on with bare feet. I also joined a group last year where I work, to make hats and scarfs for the kids that come to the hospital without any warm clothes. I found 2 quick patterns, one knit and one crochet that only uses one needle and I can whip up in an hour (for the baby one), and its small enough to take everywhere. I will be forever grateful to my mom and grandmom for teaching me how to knit and crochet.

I try to crochet daily, but my mother and my husband don’t like it very much. They look at me and think that I’m sick of loving crochet that much. Only a person that knitts can undertand me.Or not?

  40. Judi Gums says:

Oh yes, I crochet every day. I am retired now and have a lot of time on my hands. I didn’t do it for many years when I was working every day, and now I wonder why I didn’t keep doing some on the side. But life was more hectic then.

I love making afghans in different textured stitches, and I am always looking for a new one. I do other projects also, but I love the afghans because I can crochet and still watch TV, or have a conversation with a family member at the same time. I am making afghans and hats to donate at this time.
