Free Crochet Pattern: Little Elephant Curtain Tie Back

Add a touch of cuteness to a baby or child’s room with a set of these little elephant curtain tie backs. The elephant is crocheted amigurumi style, then attached to a classic curtain tie back. If you don’t have hooks in the wall to attach the tie back to, feel free to make the tie back longer and simply tie it around the curtain instead.

Skill Level: crochet skill level easy

Finished Size:
Elephant: 4″ (10 cm) wide including ears, 3 1/2″ (9 cm) tall
Tie back: 1″ (2.5 cm) wide, 10 1/2″ (27 cm) long
Note: Length can be adjusted to be as long or short as desired by using the instructions within the pattern.

Materials:
Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 50 yards)
Crochet Hook F (3.75 mm)
Polyester Fiber Fill
Yarn Needle
crochet yarn size 4

Gauge:
Rounds 1 – 5 in head pattern measure 2 1/4″ in diameter

Crochet Pattern: Little Elephant Curtain Tie Back
Head / Body
Round 1: ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook, place marker: 6 sc
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around: 12 sc
Round 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around: 18 sc
Round 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around: 24 sc
Round 5: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around: 30 sc
Round 6 – 11: sc in each sc around: 30 sc
Round 12: (sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc) around: 24 sc
Round 13: (sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc) around: 18 sc
Round 14: (sc2tog, sc in next sc) around: 12 sc
Fill with fiberfill.
Round 15: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around: 18 sc
Round 16: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around: 24 sc
Round 17 – 19: sc in each sc around: 24 sc
Round 20: (sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc) around: 18 sc
Round 21: (sc2tog, sc in next sc) around: 12 sc
Fill with fiberfill.
Round 22: sc2tog 6 times: 6 sc
Finish off and weave shut. With a yarn needle and black yarn, embroider eyes to head.

Ear (make 2)
Row 1: ch 2, 3 sc in second ch from hook: 3 sc
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc across: 6 sc
Row 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) across: 9 sc
Row 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) across: 12 sc
Finish off, leaving a long end for sewing. With a yarn needle, sew ear to side of head using photo as a guide.

Trunk
Round 1: ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook, place marker: 6 sc
Round 2 – 6: sc in each sc around: 6 sc
Finish off, leaving a long end for sewing. With a yarn needle, trunk to front of head using photo as a guide.

Tie Back
Row 1: ch 41 or a chain as long as the desired tie back, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in each ch across until 2 ch remain, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch: 40 sts
Row 2: ch 10, working on opposite side of ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in each ch across until 2 ch remain, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, ch 10, sl st in first sc on row 1: 60 sts

Assembly
With a yarn needle, attach body of elephant to tie back.
