Free Crochet Pattern: Ruby Dog Bandanna

By Claire Golden – 4 Comments

Whenever my poodle Ruby went to her groomer, she came home with a new bandanna. She was adorable with her brightly-colored accessories, and we amassed quite the collection over the 13 years we had with her. I was feeling nostalgic and decided to design a crochet bandanna in her memory. It uses the Corner-to-Corner Crochet method, which is easy to memorize and fun to make. My dog Maisie is modeling it for you. She’s a Chinese Crested Powderpuff, which is a toy breed, meaning she’s quite small…but you can easily make this bandanna to fit any size dog. I’d love to know what dogs you would make this for!

Skill Level:

Finished Size: Bandanna shown measures 11″ (28 cm) wide, 5.5″ (14 cm) tall. Loosely measure your dog’s neck circumference and make the bandanna that wide.

Materials:
Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 25 yards)
Crochet Hook G (4.00 mm)
crochet yarn size 4

Gauge:
Rows 1 – 4 in pattern measures 2″ (5 cm) along straight edge.

Special Stitches
Cluster: (yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times all in the same stitch, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops

Edging
Ch 31, sc in second chain from hook and in each of the next 29 chains (first tie made). Work around diagonal sides of the bandanna in the ch-3 spaces and around the double crochets at the end of the rows. Sl st into first space, *ch 3, cluster in same space, ch 1, sl st in next space, repeat from * around until you reach the opposite corner, making last sl st in same space as cluster. Ch 31, sc in second chain from hook and in each of next 29 chains (second tie made). Sl st into same space.
Finish off and weave in ends.

Remember to supervise your dog while he or she is wearing the bandanna so it doesn’t get eaten or choked on!
