Crochet Pattern: Nearly Autumn Shawl

By Amy Yarbrough – August 29th, 2013 15 Comments
Autumn is the most enjoyable season of the year, in my opinion! Time to start thinking of working on fall puzzles while sipping on a cup of hot apple cider. Though it’s still a few weeks away, already we have felt the weather changing and I couldn’t help turning my thoughts toward the season! What I had in mind for this project was a small bandana-like shawl to accessorize a simple long sleeve shirt. Perfect for fall! If you use Homespun like I did, be sure to read the tip at the bottom of the pattern. It was very helpful to learn. Try it out and tell me what you think! Nearly Autumn Shawl

I am happy to administrate this fun and fabulous CAL, and here are all of the details!

How will it work?

The CAL will have a theme – Quick and Easy Holiday Gifts. That way, it can help us reach our holiday crafting goals.

Crochet Pattern: Frog Security Blanket

By Rachel Choi – August 25th, 2013 2 Comments
There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! This security blanket can be crocheted for boys and girls. The frog is a cute little friend that a child can tote around and cuddle with. The pattern requires a light weight yarn so that it isn’t too heavy for a child. It is crocheted in the round like a spiral so that there are no seams in the blanket or the frog. Feel free to crochet it using your child’s favorite color!

Crochet Pattern: Cupster

By Candace – August 24th, 2013 7 Comments
What is a cupster, exactly? It’s simply a coaster with a lip that cups the bottom of your glass. One benefit of a cupster is that if it fits snugly on the glass, the cupster will stay with it, and you don’t have to worry about making sure your coaster is wherever you set the glass down. crochet_cupster

Crochet Pattern: 1-Up Mushroom

By Amy Yarbrough – August 22nd, 2013 6 Comments
Being part of a family of avid video-gamers, there is no way I could miss the influence of Mario Brothers on my earlier life. I quickly learned that mushrooms were treats and turtles were the enemy. I’ve often wondered if this is what spurred my love of mushrooms but who knows. Mushrooms have a pleasant roundness to them, you must admit. Give it a try and tell me what you think! 1-Up Mushroom

How to Crochet Over Single Crochets in a Circle

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – August 20th, 2013 5 Comments

For this week’s tutorial, I’d like to riff on my last tutorial, How to Crochet Over Single Crochets in Rows by taking the same idea and working it in a circle. For the purpose of practicing this skill, we’ll make a small swatch in this tutorial. Yarn and hook size don’t matter for this practice swatch.

You may mouse over images for left-handed views.

Round 1: Beginning with a magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc into ring, tighten loop, sl st in first sc: 6 sc

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, sl st in first sc: 12 sc

Round 3: ch 1, working over the stitches of the last round, work 3 sc into each space below around: 18 sc

The photo below shows this in progress. The “i” symbol indicates round one, “ii” indicates round 2, and “iii” indicates round 3. The arrow is pointing to the space where the next stitches will be worked.

Note: In round 3, you are always working 3 sc over each set of 2 sc.

Crochet Pattern: Peephole Clutch

By Candace – August 18th, 2013 2 Comments
I don’t know about you, but I like to keep music with me whenever I go out, just in case. The peephole in this clutch is convenient for stringing your headphones through, so you can listen to your phone or mp3 player (or Walkman, if that’s your thing!) with minimal fuss. You can also use it to hang your clutch on a hook when you need your hands free. The pattern calls for bulky weight yarn, making the clutch fast to crochet. It’s crocheted all in one piece so that there is minimal sewing required. crochet peephole clutch

Crochet Pattern: Woven Belt

By Amy Yarbrough – August 17th, 2013 3 Comments
There are times when long shirts or straight dresses really beg a belt to break up the continuity and give you some waist. This belt is a perfect choice! The stitch alternates between the front and back post stitch which gives it a retro woven look. Also, the drape is just right to make it firm enough for a belt as well as allow it to double as a scarf. Be sure to give it a try. And don’t forget to tell me what you think! Woven Belt

Crochet Pattern: Lipstick Smile Applique

By Candace – August 15th, 2013 Be the first to comment
Aside from decorating accessories and household items, this smiling applique would also make a cheerful gift tag.

While this particular applique is small, it presents a challenge, requiring you to crochet into the sides of stitches as well as into the bottom of the starting chain.

Let’s Crochet Along!

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – August 13th, 2013 164 Comments

I wanted to write this week’s ramble about a recent experience I had with a crochet along. In case you are not familiar with the concept, a “crochet along,” abbreviated CAL, is an event where a group of people decide to crochet the same item, similar items, or an item of their choice at the same time. There are also “knit alongs” (KALs) which are -you guessed it- the same thing, but with knitting. Finally there are CAL/KALs, where people crochet and knit along.
