Crochet Pattern: Christmas Wreath Applique

By Emilee Gettle – November 30th, 2011 6 Comments
It’s that time of year again! Time to pull out all the Christmas decorations from the attic and spruce up your home. Every year I love searching for the perfect wreath for my door. As a special treat, I like taking a walk through the woods and cutting my own greenery. I bring it home and wire wrap it onto a grapevine wreath for an inexpensive but beautiful and welcome sight on our front door. This week I made a Christmas wreath applique, which is a great project when you need a little holiday embellishment quick. You could use it on cards, clothes and linens.

How to Crochet a Mobius

By Candace – November 29th, 2011 22 Comments

A mobius is a ring with a half-twist that is often used to crochet a scarf, cowl, shawl or wrap. It’s a fascinating form because it has only one side and one edge. One method of making a crochet mobius is to simply make a strip, make the half-twist, and sew the ends together, but if you like a challenge, here’s how you make a mobius starting with the foundation chain.

There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! If you’re a ruffle lover, crochet this cowl to add to your collection! With two sides of ruffles, this cowl is bound to add some flare to your outfit. Crochet Pattern: Sandwich Cookies

By Emilee Gettle – November 26th, 2011 11 Comments
When I was a child I remember one afternoon, while I was taking my nap, my mom crocheted some play food for me. When I awoke there by my pillow was some sweet handmade goodies! Now it’s my turn, and as soon as my little girl awakes from her nap she’ll have these little cookies waiting for her. They are so easy to make and a lot of fun. You can whip up a batch in no time! Make a baker’s dozen and give in a small tin to a little one in your life. Don’t forget to take some for children on your baked good delivery route this holiday season!

From Umbrellas to Rainbows

By A Guest Writer – November 25th, 2011 10 Comments

A Guest Post by Eve Tallafer-Sison.

I learned to crochet at the age of nine. My mother, in her early 40s then used to crochet bedspreads, chair covers, doilies and table runners. She would do that in between writing her lesson plans as grade one teacher in my hometown’s Central School for more than 25 years. Watching her was so intriguing especially gazing at her hand movement. I liked it when she would yarn over once, twice or even thrice for a double, treble and double treble crochet.

Just like any other child, my curiosity had to be satisfied and so after undergoing my first crochet tutorial in learning the initial step, the rudiments of crochet, that is, doing a chain, it seemed like I had a taste of marijuana. That was fantastic! Practicing making a chain as Lesson No. 1. Just chain, chain, and chain, using my mother’s own crochet hook as she had only one at that time. From then on, I couldn’t wait till she would take some time out either to rest from her project or for some other chores, so I could use her crochet hook.

Crochet Pattern: Cupped Bauble Bracelet

By Candace – November 23rd, 2011 6 Comments
This wire bracelet has a cool and sophisticated look when made with pearls, and the wire crochet gives it an interesting texture. The simple shaping creates the “cups” that the beads rest in.

Remember to be careful when making this pattern because mistakes in wire are not as easy to take out as mistakes in yarn are.

Advice for Readers from a Reader

By A Guest Writer – November 22nd, 2011 7 Comments

The following is a Guest Post by Kitty, a Crochet Spot reader.

Hi, Ladies and Gentlemen,

You all love Crochet Spot, right? Have you poked around the Store where you purchase patterns? Sure, there are plenty of freebies Rachel and others so generously share, but you really need to take a peek at the patterns you can purchase. I began looking and decided to buy the Membership. How often do we buy a crochet magazine for one pattern? Here at Crochet Spot, you buy what you want. The BIG added bonus is that if you get stuck, or something is not quite clear, you’re given help. Darn, that’s as good as having a private crochet tutor! I’ve just downloaded the Christmas gift bag patterns…too cute AND useful.

Hope you’ll at least take a look around the “store”!

Sincerely,
Kitty

Crochet Pattern: Turkey Applique

By Emilee Gettle – November 18th, 2011 2 Comments
It’s hard to believe the holidays are knocking on our door! I love Thanksgiving! It is one of the only days of the year when I get to see most all of my family. I love recalling childhood days and sharing those memories with those dear to my heart. This week my crochet project is a turkey applique in honor of Turkey Day! This little applique can be used in many ways for clothes, kitchen or dining room linens, cards or even as a pin to wear. I used a finer crochet thread for the feathers and a bit chunkier fingering yarn for the body to add definition.

Back to Crocheting Normality, Sort Of

By Veronica Smith – November 17th, 2011 3 Comments

Well hubby and his pinched nerve and numb fingers is back to work so things have started on the road to ‘normality’. I use that word loosely as I don’t think we are quite normal in this house. Hubby being back to work means I can start to straighten my brain power back to the chaos it usually is – but it is MY chaos.

Well the dancing concert for the youngest daughter is in 12 days so I am sitting at a LOT of extra dancing lessons. Even though last weekends were 3 hours both days, I am 45 minutes from the studio so I don’t bother coming home. PLUS it gives me 3 hours to crochet >>>grins<<<. There IS an upside to running kids around. This very same concert however, has landed me with more sewing. I already have 4 of her 7 costumes, but I still have to make her into a witch, a pirate and make a shortish tartan skirt (not a kilt) and a matching shirt. I have known about this for probably 2 weeks and it is now pretty well the ‘last minute’ so I really need to get sewing. Fortunately, I can only do that at home so I can crochet to my heart’s content for many hours at dancing.

I have also added to my crochet time – well my ‘sit down and do nothing’ time, so while I am sitting down I can crochet some more – yaaayyyyyy!
