Crochet Pattern: Drawstring Pouch

By Amy Yarbrough – June 5th, 2014 4 Comments
Little crocheted pouches are unique and great for carrying valuables or just little things that are easily lost. This pouch is worked in the round and has a tight crocheted bottom to prevent loss of whatever you might wish to carry in it, making it great for travel. Complete with a picot edging and twisted cord for the drawstring, this pouch has plenty of room for quite a few little things. Make them for yourself and all your family and friends and see just what precious things they decide to store in their pouches. Drawstring Pouch

Could I Be Allergic to Yarn!?

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – June 3rd, 2014 28 Comments

Before you start writing me supportive notes of encouragement during my time of struggle, I feel I should mention that I am not actually allergic to yarn. However, allergies or sensitivities to certain types of fiber do happen. In fact, I have a good friend who is an avid crocheter and she is so allergic to wool, she can’t even work with wool yarn unless it’s no more than a 20% wool blend! She can crochet with it if her finished product is for someone else, that is, because she is so allergic to wool, that she can not wear the final product!

Clearly this girl just found out she can no longer crochet with wool! Photo credit: Bob Jagendorf via flickr under license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/deed.en

Crochet Pattern: Expanding Pentagon Motif

By Amy Yarbrough – June 2nd, 2014 27 Comments
Have you ever tried crocheting a project with motifs of shapes other than squares? It can be challenging, especially when you’re not following an already made pattern. But it’s also a lot of fun. Here’s an elegant but simple pentagon motif that is very versatile. Choose to make it smaller by crocheting less rounds, or larger by following the same increasing method, whichever best suits your project. Expanding Pentagon Motif

Crochet Pattern: Little Arbor Fingerless Gloves

By Candace – May 29th, 2014 2 Comments
These gloves get their name from the little trees that decorate the wrist and forearm. Fingerless gloves are great to have on hand (no pun intended) when it’s cold outside or when the air conditioners turn on and indoor spaces get chilly. Made in juicy summer colors, they’re a great reminder that spring and summer are right outside. Made in deep, warm colors, they’re a great compliment to wintery outfits. crochet little arbor fingerless gloves

Public Displays of Crochet Planned for WWKIP!

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – May 28th, 2014 6 Comments

It’s that time of year. It’s time for crochet to come out of the woodwork and into the streets! As you may already know, we yarn crafters have a special event each year called “World Wide Knit in Public Day,” or WWKIP. Yeah, I know the “K” in there stands for knitting, but I am not going to split hairs about it today. As far as I am concerned, I consider the existence of the phenomenon an invitation to bring yarn to the parks, beaches, and sidewalk cafes! This is our time to be ambassadors of our craft by simply doing what we do.

Crochet Pattern: Cliffside Infinity Scarf

By Amy Yarbrough – May 26th, 2014 2 Comments
As with most clothing accessories, infinity scarves can differ in length and width as well as thickness and weight, making them available for wearing year round. In the summertime a lightweight scarf is preferable while the winter begs a more fibrous and heavy stitch. This scarf is a longer version giving you the ability to wrap it three times or just twice for a more draped look. With a thick stitch texture, your neck won’t lack for warmth. A strap holds the layers together for a stylish twist. Don’t you think the button adds just the right touch? crochet cliffside infinity scarf

Your Go-To Crochet Pattern Brings Optimal Experience

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – May 24th, 2014 17 Comments

Tell me what you think of the following assertion: The soothing motions of crochet are made even more comforting when your brain doesn’t have to work too hard to figure out what comes next in a pattern. When you can easily select your hook and yarn and just stitch, crochet takes on a different, meditative dimension.

Am I right, people? …

What brought on this sudden episode of “deep thoughts?” Well, it’s just that I think that most of us probably have a pattern or two that we go back to over and over again because it’s just comfortable. Maybe we’ve made it so many times that it’s fun to see what else this pattern can become for us. And working on this pattern so often allows us to move our attention from the physical movements and mental concentration required for other patterns and experience crochet in an entirely different way.

Crochet Pattern: Lacy Tunisian Scarf

By Candace – May 22nd, 2014 1 Comment
Small and airy, this triangular scarf is a good pick for spring. This scarf can be worn in a number of ways to accessorize your wardrobe. The large hook and gauge provide drape while also preventing the dreaded Tunisian curling. The pattern requires at least an intermediate knowledge of Tunisian crochet and the ability to understand some special directions. If you’re ready for a Tunisian crochet challenge, this scarf is for you!
