World’s Fastest Crocheter

By Rachel Choi – 17 Comments
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Lisa Gentry (shown to the right) holds the title of the world’s fastest crocheter. In 2005, she broke the record at the Michaels Arts and Crafts Store in Monroe, LA. She crocheted at the speed of 170 sts/min, which is almost 3 stitches per second!!!

She used TLC Essentials yarn and created an 8″ mega flower (very similar to my Crochet Flower Pattern: Carnations) while she was being timed.

I don’t know about you but I consider myself a slow crocheter and only in my dreams would I be lucky to crochet 3 stitches per second! What about you? Do you crochet fast?

I consider myself to be a very slow crocheter. I read comments for patterns where people say it only took then an hour or something to make the pattern and it takes me several.

Wow.. three stitches a second? I’m lucky if I do three stitches a minute. 😉

I am a VERY slow crocheter. I love seeing my project slowly develop. I usually spend several minutes admiring each section. 😀

Can you say SLOOOOWWWWWWW…….. 😉 Yup, I am very slow at crocheting, which means it is very relaxing for me…. I am often crocheting, later in the evening, with my eyes half-closed. Now THAT’s relaxed! LOL Sometimes I attempt to go a little faster, but tend to mess up more – so why bother, huh? I love my relaxation-crochet time!!

Er, I have no idea if I’m fast. I don’t know how many the typical person does in a minute, so yeahhh….. I think I’m maybe a bit on the faster side, but not by much.

My favorite time of year to crochet is football season. I complete more projects camped out on the couch all day Sunday, fast or slow I don’t know. I love to crochet and watch football! Go Packers!

like to go slow, and winters coming, so watch tv and crochet at the same time, tryed to crochet a afghan in summer, way to hot to have on your lap while crocheting it,at least i stay warm in cold times as im crochet it,

I tend to speed along, actually. Not like this lady though. 🙂

  10. Shayna says:

I think that I crochet about thirty stitches per minute, so I guess I am kinda fast.

It depends on the type of stitches I’m doing. Single crochets I can barrel through wicked quick, but double and triple crochets slow me up a bit trying to get the yarn through the right number of loops. Also things like counting stitches – like when I’m doing an amigurumi and I’m working in the round and have to increase every few stitches – slow me down because I lose count and have to go back and count again and again. But since I’m not only really impatient, but I’m just trying to do so much and get as much done in as little time, I always try to crochet as fast as I can. I do relax and crochet leisurely when I can but usually I’m in a rush

I crochet so fast I get yarn burn on my fingers and wear grooves into my hooks. Wonder how many hooks she goes through?

i guess im about medium ,unless im upset or something like its the same st over and over then its pretty fast. i never timed it but i doubt im 3 st per sec.but thats very awesome gives you something to aim for .

  14. Naomi says:

People tell me that I crochet fast, but maybe that’s cause they only see me doing repetitive patterns. I tend to lean towards that type of pattern.

  15. Olivia says:

I have to get used to a stitch before I can speed up. Like if I’ve been doing double crochet I’ll try to yarn over when doing a single crochet stitch. Or I’ll only yarn over once when doing triple crochet.

  16. Karen says:

What size hook and yarn, and what kind of stitch did she use?

Only if interested in being Fastest would I consider speeding through crocheting or knitting or anything.

I was fast at statistical typing but worked at being accurate, which was more important to me.

Relaxing, even with typing, is my goal. Finishing a crochet/knitting/ccs/etc. is always nice.

Typing for work is different – I needed to be fast, accurate, and work completed in a more-than timely manner.

I do, however, appreciate the speed mavens on needle arts. Lily Chin is my personal hero!
