How to Weave in Ends – Part 2

Posted in Tutorials and Help on November 13th, 2014 by Amy Yarbrough – 3 Comments

Welcome back to How to Weave in Ends! In part one, we talked about the importance of weaving in yarn tails and a couple of ways to do it. Now I am going to show you what to do when working the tails into the row ends isn’t a good choice.

In the same way I showed you how to weave the tails into the single crochet border, simple weaving in behind a few strands of the stitches in the pattern piece is fairly quick and great for pieces with a wrong side. I recommend this method for solid stitch patterns like the one in the picture below.

Tip #2: After weaving a tail in, give the material a stretch so that the tail will look more natural and you can clip off any ends that show.

The fun of crocheting isn’t just in the finished project but the whole process: choosing the project, buying the material, beginning and completing it, and finally, showing it off. Unfortunately, there is one small but significant element that causes most of us some apprehension. And I’m sure you’ve already guessed what I’m going to say: weaving in ends.

Boleros and shrugs are excellent choices for tank tops or simple long sleeves, and even lovelier with summer dresses or formal gowns. Many people like to add them as the finishing touch to their already exquisite wedding dress. Make this Iced Bolero by crocheting a simple rectangle and partially stitching two sides together. Using a medium weight yarn, work a lovely, loose stitch and end with a slightly loopy border. An easy project for a few hours work of crochet! crochet iced bolero

With a wedding on the horizon, I asked my friend what colors she wanted in her new kitchen. She responded with yellow and black. These two colors, sometimes mixed with white, has met with popularity in home decor and fashion, among other areas. My decision to make her dishtowels was an easy one. Dishtowels make wonderful gifts for anyone, especially those setting out to make a new home. Plus they are handmade and should last many years to come. This set includes patterns for a diamond stitch, chevron stitch pattern, and the ever-loving granny stitch. Designed for three colors, choose any that suit your taste and have fun making all three dishtowel patterns! crochet bumblebee dishtowel set

With crochet thread and seed beads, this eyewear retainer will keep your glasses handy with personality. The fine chains of crochet hold the straps on the earpiece without the need of rubber to keep them in place. Experimenting with size hook and thread will give you different results, if you prefer a thinner strap. Don’t forget to add more chains if using smaller thread. Enjoy this pattern and let me know your ideas! Beaded Eyewear Retainer

Crocheting baby blankets are something special to me. The fact that it is handmade trumps store bought every time. I enjoy spending time thinking about the pattern and creating it specifically for the new baby. It’s a tradition that many crocheters like to keep. This blanket has a simple but beautiful stitch pattern and a frilly border that is just the right touch. I chose to work it with Bernat Baby Coordinates’ Posy Patch, but any baby yarn, variegated or solid, will work just as well. crochet sorbet baby blanket

Sometimes the easiest projects are the most enjoyable to make because of their simplicity. This scarf is a great way to show off your favorite chunky yarn, as well as work with a super large hook for a change. The scarf in the picture was made with Hometown USA in colors Washington Denim and Dallas Grey, both wonderful colors from a lovely yarn. For an extra chunky scarf, double the amount of chains. You can also add more chains, and knots, to give it your own personal flair. As always, have fun! Chunky Chain Scarf
