Crochet Pattern: Sparkler Flip Flops

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 28th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
A short dirve through town and one can see tents popping up in parking lots with every kind of firework imaginable. While I love watching them on the 4th of July, I’m not brave when it comes to lighting them. Sparklers, smoke bombs, and those weird black snakes that grow when lighted are about as adventurous as I get. While strolling through the yarn section this week at a local craft store I spotted a new selection of glitter eyelash yarn. So, inspired by the night fireworks shows that I’ve been enjoying I decided to make this pattern for sparkler flip flops.

This headband has only one side and one edge–It’s a cool little mathematical trick involving a ring with a half-twist. This pattern is simple enough for those who are new to Moebius crochet to follow. If you are new to this technique, please see the tutorial on How to Crochet a Moebius to learn the basics of crocheting a moebius.

Crochet Pattern: Peas in a Pod

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 19th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 2 Comments
I absolutely despised peas growing up and had more fun mashing them on my plate than anything else. However, when I discovered what they tasted like fresh out of the pod, I changed my mind. They are the perfect garden snack, wrapped in a little pod package. This week I crocheted my own peas in a pod. I used wool yarn, which can easily be felted too. This project would make a great pin. However, your children or grandchildren might claim them for their play food collection. I’m thinking of felting a few of these pods onto a wool purse too!

Crochet Pattern: Ladybug

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 16th, 2012 by Candace – 8 Comments
I’m normally not very big on insects, but ladybugs are a notable exception. For their simplicity, they’re quite pretty, and they’re pretty much synonymous with warm weather. This pattern requires some simple assembly and stuffing as well as embroidery on the wings.

Crochet Pattern: Bow Napkin Rings

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 13th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 1 Comment
The weather is perfect for picnics. There is nothing like cooking outdoors. The fresh air and fireflies are perfect dinner companions. This summer why not plan a homemade picnic right down to the napkin rings. Bake some fresh bread, gather some ears of corn from your local farmer, slice open a ripe melon from your garden and let the fun begin. I love collecting vintage tableware and linens for our picnics. These easy napkin rings are the perfect complement. They are so fast to make you could create several sets in various color combinations to stash away.

Crochet Pattern: Moonlight Charm

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 9th, 2012 by Candace – 7 Comments
This pattern is written for fine Jelly Yarn (more specifically, the glow-in-the-dark variety). Due to the way the yarn works up, it is advisable to heat block the piece with an iron when it is done for better shaping that doesn’t curl up on itself.

The pattern itself is simple and is good for someone who wants to try a different type of yarn.

Crochet Pattern: Electric Cord Cover

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on June 6th, 2012 by Emilee Gettle – 10 Comments
I found a beautiful siamese kitty at the humane society who has forever won a place in my heart. However, she has one bad habit and that’s chewing on electric cords. More than once my computer speakers have went dead and my mouse kicked the bucket too, thanks to her naughty vice. So, I became desperate to find a solution. Thankfully, through the crafting grapevine, I heard of crocheting a cover over the electric cords to discourage chewing. I decided to give it a try and it is oh so easy to do! I recommend using black scrap yarn to blend in with the cord.

Now that summer is almost here vacation season is upon us. My family and I do a lot of traveling all throughout the year. I love seeing historic sights, visiting the beach and hiking in the mountains. Through the years I have tried to get just a little more organized each time I pack. I try my best to think ahead and pack accordingly so that if my luggage gets thrown around I won’t have to worry. This week, since I have a trip ahead of me, I decided to crochet this jewelry pocket to protect my favorite necklace from bumps and scratches during my travels.

Crochet Pattern: Strawberry

I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit!
