Posted in News on June 30th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 16 Comments

You can visit the Crochet Spot Store at: //www.crochetspot.com/store/

Here is how to get started:

1. Create a Store Account
This is really important! By creating an account it will save all of the patterns you purchased so that you can download them whenever you want. If you accidentally lose your PDF file, you can just log in and download it again!
Please note that if you are a newsletter subscriber, the store account is different. So you will still need to create a store account. Creating the account is free and fast! Just fill out the big blue box at the upper right hand corner of the store page.

2. Buy Patterns, there are two options!

Premium Pattern Membership
You may decide to upgrade your account to a Premium Pattern Membership for $10/month. This will allow you to download all the patterns in the store, including all newly added patterns each month for as long as you are subscribed. Yes, there will be plenty of patterns added each month. To join the membership simply click the “Subscribe” button in the yellow box at the top of the store page when you log into your account.

One of the great things about the store is that everything works automatically! Once you pay you can automatically download patterns. You do NOT have to wait for me to email them to you like other stores do! Also be aware that the payment processing for the membership is automatic. If you sign up on the 1st of the month, the next payment will automatically be on the 1st of the next month.

There is no monthly obligation for being a member. You can cancel your membership at anytime by logging into your Paypal or other payment account. Note that upon canceling, you membership account will be closed automatically the same day and you will no long have access to all the patterns in the store.

Pay Per Pattern
If you are not apart of the Premium Pattern Membership you may pay the price listed for each pattern in the store. After logging into your newly created account you can add patterns to your shopping cart on the right hand side of your screen. Upon purchasing them you will be able to automatically download them! In addition, these patterns will be saved in your account in the “My Purchased Patterns” tab, so that you can re-download them later if you lose them.

Crochet Spot Store is Finally Here!!!

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on June 29th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 2 Comments

It’s been way too long and too much procrastination on my side, but finally it’s here!!! If you just stumbled upon my blog you might not know what I’m talking about, but in a nut shell, 3 months ago I said that I was going to open a store to help support funding all the supplies I need to keep making patterns for Crochet Spot and to get a new video camera so that I can start making video tutorials. So here I am today, so happy to finally have a Crochet Spot Store!!!

But don’t be scared!!! I still intend on making free patterns and tutorials. I just need a means to support doing it. The more money I can raise, the more I can make and share for free!

Any support that you can provide will be greatly appreciated! The store contains patterns that go above and beyond my previous patterns in quality. If you find some that you like, feel free to make a purchase knowing that your money will be used to support this site.

Also, if you like multiple patterns you may choose to opt-in on the “Premium Pattern Membership” to save you some money. The membership is $10 for all the patterns in the store. In addition, lots of new patterns will be added each month so you will also receive all the new patterns each month for $10 each month (or the equivalent in other currencies). Hopefully this membership option will make it easier to share patterns with you all without having you sell a kidney.

As I know from experience there is always someone that needs help more than I do. So to kick off the Grand Opening of the store, 50% of all Premium Pattern Memberships made during June 29th – July 31, 2009 will be donated to Project H.O.M.E. who’s goal is to end homelessness in Philadelphia (the city I’m from)! Feel free to check out their site. They do amazing work!!!

I love being able to share new and exciting things on this site with you all!!! All the money raised in the store will be a great help for me to continue to share what I love most: crochet!

So go on and check out the new store and let me know what you think!

Yay Pictures!!!

Woohoo!!! These are photos of some of the things that I’ve been working on for next week’s opening of the Crochet Spot Store on Monday June 29th. Woohoo!!! I’m so excited! I’ve been wanting to share these with you all for a while.

Also, I’m making a “Premium Pattern Membership” option that allows you to get all the patterns in the store for just $10 a month, which includes all the new patterns that I’ll be adding each month. This saves you money while giving you access to all the patterns in the store. Non Premium Pattern Members will still have the ability to purchase patterns individually as they desire.

This store will help to support running Crochet Spot and a portion of the earnings during the Grand Opening will be donated to charity!

Let me know what you think!

Raising Money for Charity

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on June 16th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 15 Comments

I want to pick a charity to donate a portion of my earnings from the Crochet Spot Store that I’ll be opening June 29th, which by the way is coming up very soon! I got this idea when a friend of mine had a birthday party and themed it to raise money to fight pediactric cancer. I thought this was a great idea!!! Although I’m not a big party person, I thought that it would be a great opportunity to use my store grand opening to help raise some money for a good cause. I’m not sure exactly how much I’ll be donating yet, but I can tell you that it will be a nice percentage.

I have some great charities in mind, but do you have any in mind?? Feel free to tell me about a charity even if it’s not crochet related!

2009 Knit and Crochet Show

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on June 2nd, 2009 by Rachel Choi – Be the first to comment
The Knit and Crochet show is the Crochet Guild of America’s Annual Chain Link Conference and The Knitting Guild Association’s Regional Conference. I was reading about the neat activities that they’ll be having there and I got so excited! The show is being held in Buffalo, NY from August 6-9. They are suppose to have a cool shop full of yarn, kits, hooks, needles, books and I guess everything any crocheter or knitter can ever dream of. There’s also fashion shows, dinners, interesting classes to learn something new and so much more. knit and crochet show

I really want to go but never been before, have you? If so how was it?

What’s Coming in the Crochet Spot Store?

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News on June 1st, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 8 Comments

This month I’ve been super busy making patterns, patterns, and did I mention patterns? So far I have a few that are almost ready to be tested. But they all need some finishing touches first. Here is a snippet of what’s to come in the store. Sorry there’s no photos, they aren’t as appealing when there’s just pieces of things laying around on my desk, hehe.

Amigurumi Alien
OOOh, this one is cute! My favorite part is his feet. Then don’t have toes, but they’re perfectly rounded with a nice foot shape and ankles. I enjoy making them walk around on my desk even though they aren’t connected to the body yet. That’s how much I like them (not that I have an alien foot fetish or anything)!

Wishing Well
A nice lady asked me to make a pattern for this a while ago and I just never got around to doing it until now. She wanted to use it for her daughter’s wedding reception so that people can drop cards into it. I thought that was a great idea!

Felted Purse
This one is fun if you like felting. I first designed it to be extra big so that when it felted it would shrink to be the perfect size. But after crocheting it, it was already a great size for a bag! I contemplated felting it or leaving it as is, but I felted it anyway. It made a very cute small purse that I really love! The moral of the story is that you can choose to felt or not to felt and it will still look great.

Tunisian Purse
I love Tunisian stitches, especially when it’s done in 3 colors! The colors just weave together very nicely. This purse is larger than the felted purse so it’s better for carrying around the essentials plus some.

Lace Shawl
I always wanted a shawl that I could wear every day and also dress up for special occasions. So I designed this shawl just for that. It’s made with size 10 thread so that it drapes very nicely and is light enough so that it can be worn when the weather is warm or when it is cold.

Ruffle Shrug
You have to love ruffles to want to make this shrug because it has very full ruffles on it! There is a pretty wavy texture to the body of the shrug and then the bold ruffles surrounding it.

Thread Bunny
I thought it would be fun to crochet a very, very tiny bunny. It stands about 1 1/2 inches tall. It’s made with size 10 rainbow thread and with a bunny this tiny it makes it look like it’s colorfully striped!

Soft Sweater
This is a sweater that I started but have no clue how to finish. We’ll see where my crochet hook takes me. But I have to tell you that it’s super soft because I used boucle yarn, (one of the most petted yarns in the stash).

Kid’s Pillow
I started this round pillow and decided to put a cute animal face on it. I mean kids do like animals right? I’m thinking a teddy bear or maybe a doggy…hmm. I’ll have to think about it more.

As you can see, I’ve been busy this month, but still have yet to finish any of these for the store. Darn me and my impulse to start new things before finishing the previous. Anyway, I just wanted to share what I’ve been up to!

Let me know if you have more ideas for patterns!

Crochet Hook Used for Surgery

Posted in News on May 21st, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 7 Comments
Dr. Peter Lawrence, chief of vascular surgery at UCLA, developed a new technique to get rid of varicose veins. More interestingly, this technique uses a small crochet hook to help remove the veins. This is a minimally invasive and non-scarring procedure called light-assisted stab phlebectomy (lasp). Who ever thought that crochet hooks would be used for more than just crochet?

Have you ever seen or used crochet hooks for something other than crocheting?

Prisoners Crochet

Posted in News on May 9th, 2009 by Rachel Choi – 10 Comments
Snyder County Prison in PA has a new program where inmates can crochet blankets for charity! I’ve never been to a prison before, but I was so glad to read an article about it today. The prisoners crocheted about 18 blankets so far and donated them to local hospitals.

This rehab program has become a huge success as it “shows them there are good things that can be done for other people that doesn’t take a whole lot of time or money. There are learning to cooperate, take directions and learn responsibility.”

According to staff in the prison, there has been a positive change in the inmates. They are becoming more relaxed and respectful. One inmate even said that they often think about the families that they will be touching with the blankets they make.

I’m so glad that the inmates have a chance to do something great even if they are in prison. I hope that other prisons have this program as well!
