Thanks, Rachel! This’ll be handy to keep my sons pacifiers in!

Did you make it with the breast cancer awareness yarn?

  2. Bananas says:

are you going to make a top? or is it open?

    • Rachel says:

It’s open. But if you would like a top, you can make a second one, but perhaps a bit shorter and leave the last row of slip stitches out. This way the top is not as tight or big as the dish.

  3. Sarah R. says:

Well, I made one! I think I need to do it tighter or go down a hook, because it’s not as stiff as I’d like.
The only thing I did differently is the last row. Instead of slip stitching around, I did a reverse single crochet. It gives it a nifty little border, I guess. 🙂
    Thanks for the pattern, Rachel!

Oh, a quick question.. my husband wants an afghan that’s just one large granny square. I was wondering if it’s possible to do a large granny rectangle instead? That way it looks more like an afghan. 🙂

    • Rachel says:

Hey Sarah, there is a way to do a rectangle granny square I’m sure. If you google “rectangle granny square” a few patterns should pop up. I remember seeing them before.

  6. Melanie says:

This project was perfect for using up a small amount of yarn from my stash. TY!

  7. Denise says:

I made this project because I needed a quick “crochet fix” without starting a major project. I love it because it’s useful and cute. (I love little boxes, so why not crochet a bowl?) Mine isn’t quite as pretty as the picture, so I’ll just have to practice by making more!!! Thanks for a great project Rachel!

  8. Angie says:

This is so AWESOME! I just made one for a Christmas gift and plan to make more. I even made a cute little edging around it, I’m thinking picot next time. 🙂 Thanks Rachel!

    hi,
i am new to crocheting but i love this design that you did and i am following the steps but since i’m it is confusing for me. what does hdc mean? can you show a video on how you did this?

  10. Pat says:

Do you chain 2 at the beginning of each round? I put a stripe in mine with a different yarn and it didn’t meet up at the end of the round. Thanks. Love the little dish tho. I put a little crochet flower with button in middle on side of mine.

    • Rachel says:

Hi Pat, this dish is crocheted seamlessly in the round like a spiral so you don’t need the chain 2 at the beginning of each round. Since you’re putting a stripe of contrasting color, I would recommend adding the chain 2 so that it will line up.

  11. R-Zilla says:

Is this pattern through both loops or back loops? i never really know.lol

    • Rachel says:

Yes, it is worked in both loops. As a rule of thumb, you always crochet in both loops unless it tells you otherwise in the pattern 🙂

      • R-Zilla says:

Made it! Looks great! Thanks for the useful info, my friend and i have been really back and forth about that one 🙂

  12. Jeanne says:

I didn’t make this particular pattern but another on this website. When you crochet in spiral, it is not the same height all the way round. Am I doing something wrong?

  13. Akila says:

This was my second self taught project. The instructions were very clear and I’m using this for the many coins I have! Thank you:) looking forward to more interesting projects…

  14. Monica says:

If I wanted to make this wider (about 8″) how would I go about that? I like how shirt this bowl is I just need it wider for what I’m thinking of. Thanks

    • Rachel Choi says:

      Hi Monica!
You can either crochet the entire pattern with a thicker yarn and a larger crochet hook, or you can add a few rounds to the pattern. If you want to add some rounds, you can work up to round 4, then add the following…

(2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc) around: 50 hdc
(2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 4 hdc) around: 60 hdc
(2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 5 hdc) around: 70 hdc

…or however many more rounds you need to get the size you want. Then continue with the rest of the pattern that will create the height of the dish.

i am going to use this bowl to put microwaveable items in it and warm up items so i will not have to grab pot holders to remove bowls from microwave
